Thinking about the Culture Series

I’ve been listening to the audiobooks of the Culture Series from Iain M Banks for a little while now. I’ve only just finished the third book, ‘Use of Weapons’, but even after three books I have to say that these are amazing literary creations. The vision of the Culture itself is amazing, huge, vast in its conception.

I’m not sure I’ve understood everything in each of the three stories so far, but I can say that I’ve enjoyed them immensely. I plan to listen to the entire series, all 10 books, and, when I’ve listened to them all, I’m considering then reading them rather than listening to them all.

Waiting for the Patchblocks MIDI block

Just been taking a look at the Patchblocks MIDI block on their new site. It’s cheaper than I expected, although apparently when the final version becomes available it’ll be a bit more than the current £15. Even at a bit more than that I might pick one up. I think it’ll make my existing Patchblocks a lot more useful to me.

Hopefully it won’t be too long to wait though.

So Pebble announce Pebble Round

Whilst it is a nice looking device I have to say I was a little disappointed in a way. I’d sort of hoped that they’d do something more around their software. Something that could help developers get their apps into the Pebble world and in so doing get it to compete more with the Apple Watch.

I’m guessing that’s not going to happen though.

Doctor Who Unbound – Masters of War

Another story I picked up with the Davros stories were going cheap and this was pretty good actually. First off, this is David Warner as Doctor Who! How amazing is that! Secondly, Nicholas Courtney is wonderful. He’s sadly missed.

The story itself isn’t bad. It’s ok. Worth a listen. I’ve never listened to any of the unbound collection before, and so I might dip my toe a bit more after this.

Good things coming in Day One version 2.0

I’m a big fan of the Day One journal app. I find it really useful. It seems that there’s a lot of new stuff coming in the next big iteration of the app. Here’s what’s coming:

  • Multiple Journals— In Day One 2.0 you can create and name multiple journals
  • Multiple Photos— A simple and elegant solution for adding multiple photos per entry

It looks like it’ll be really cool, but I hope they won’t mess up a load of other stuff at the same time.

Edinburgh Fringe 2015: What Would Spock Do?

Edinburgh Fringe 2015: What Would Spock Do?

Ok, I love Star Trek. That’s only fair to say, but even so, this was a lovely little show. It was fun, poignant, and very well done. It was a one man show, and the one man was one of the actors who was in the Frontier Trilogy. He was excellent.

I’ve no idea if this show will go anywhere else after Edinburgh, but if it does I can thoroughly recommend it.

Now that I’ve listened to I, Davros, here’s what I think

I had the first of this series before and when Big Finish made the rest available at just £2.99 each I thought I should complete the series. It’s set before ‘Destiny of the Daleks’ and is about Davros’ early life. Actually it’s very good. I won’t spoil it in case there’s any chance you’re going to listen to these.

At the sale price I’d recommend these to listen to.
