Listening to Shriekback

I hadn’t listened to this band in a long time and decided to play their last few albums on Spotify. I’d forgotten just how good their lyrics were. It was a great listen and brought back a load of memories too.

If you haven’t heard any shriekback then I’d suggest you give them a listen as they were a great band with a great sound.

Einstein on the beach

I’ve held off writing about this performance until I’d had some time to think about it. I had very high hopes of this production. I saw ‘The Cave’ some years ago and it was incredible, and I sort of had that in my mind when I went along to see ‘Einstein on the beach’. But they’re not the same in any way.

I can’t say that I really understood any of it at all. It was almost completely incomprehensible. I also thought that a lot of the music was very poor indeed. There were a few sections of the show that I did enjoy. The dance sequences were very good indeed, but on the whole, the show wasn’t worth it in my opinion. I didn’t really enjoy it, or understand it.

It’s a bit of a shame really.

Spotify trial is over

I’ve had my 1 month free of using Spotify premium, and I’ve decided to keep it, for now anyway. I think that how I use it will evolve over time. I’m not sure that I’ve quite got it fitted into my listening patterns, but I think that’ll change and make more sense soon enough.

4th Doctor: The Valley of Death

This is part of the Lost Stories and stars Tom Baker and Louise Jameson. It’s another good old fashioned Doctor Who story, and in some ways it reminds me Indiana Jones films, and that film Congo with Laura Linney.

Anyway. It was a great all round story, well worth the listen.

Doctor Who: Other Lives

I’ve had a bit of a break from the 8th Doctor series, but I’ve decided that it is time to go back and pick up where I left off. So the next in the list of stories to listen to was ‘Other Lives’, which was an interesting story and at times quite touching too. It wasn’t part of a big story arc, and in some ways I quite like that. Sometimes when a story is part of a bigger arc it can end up not having enough of it’s own story and rely too heavily on the arc. Whereas stories that just have to stand on their own can sometimes be more adventurous as they don’t have to time down to closely with some big arc that constrains them.

You could argue that as it’s part of a series anyway it is tied to an arc, and that’s true to an extent as well, but even so I think the idea stands.

Anyway, it was a good story with a few nice twists. I enjoyed it, and it was a good one to get back into the 8th Doctor with.

Cor Limey Pickle

I decided to try out this pickle from the local deli. It’s made by Rebecca at no98.co.uk, and it’s fantastic! Very Limey indeed. I think I’ll have to try out some more of her preserves.
