I sent this picture off to Tapedeck.org weeks if not months ago. Since then I’ve heard nothing at all. Which is a shame as they don’t have one of these on their site.

From discovery to defence
These days I seem to use music as way of keeping the world out when I’m on public transport, and I don’t think I’m alone in that use at all. Lots of mobile listening seems to seek to defend us against what’s around us, from having to be disturbed or distracted by our surroundings.
Personally I quite like the idea of music as a way of shielding yourself against the world, but I do remember a time when music was a way of discovering new things, new ideas and concepts rather than something to be hidden behind.
I wonder when I changed?
I nearly had it
A while back I nearly bought this car. It was a joy to look at but a nightmare to own. It had so many problems you could’ve written a book about it, so in many ways I’m glad I didn’t buy it, but I also really regret it too.
It would have been a brilliant car even though it would have been a money pit. Perhaps sometimes you should do things that you know are wrong or bad for you or whatever just because it might be fun. Sometimes maybe it is worth taking a risk just to do something for the sheer joy of it.
I regret not getting the car. I hope I won’t make the same mistake again, but I can’t be sure.
Weekends
Can be difficult times. Often too full, of things to do, of raised expectations, of a the need to get everything done.
On occasion though there is some time to stop and think and spend a little extra effort in not being too busy to think.
It is important. I think I need to take some pictures or something.
Listening Day 13: How Little We Need to be Happy (remix)
This is the remix version from ‘The Good Son vs. The Only Daughter’. I prefer this version to the original and I actually think it is a pretty amazing remix on the whole.
As it goes, the whole remix album is very impressive indeed and I tend to play it more than ‘Blemish’ itself, but then I’ve found this with a few albums in the last few years.
Listening Day 12: How Little We Need to be Happy
Another blemish track that I enjoy although with this one I do prefer the remix version (that comes tomorrow).
Record Clubs are the new Book Clubs
I read this article on the BBC site. I had no idea that people were doing this sort of thing, but it does sound like a great idea, except perhaps for the very high cost of the speakers!
Anyway, I think I’ll have to look into this in a bit more detail and see if there are any local to me.
Listening Day 11: A Fire In The Forest (remixed by Readymade)
I love the original song, but I also love the remix version. In fact the whole album is a joy to listen to.
Listening Day 10: A Fire In The Forest
Whilst it is a difficult album, this is a beautiful song and I’ve really liked it from the moment I first heard it. It is wonderful. I’m not sure what else I can say about it except that I always find it strangely uplifting.
Listening Day 9: Exit / Delete
This is an incredibly beautiful song. I could finish my post about it right there, but there is so much more to this track.
I love the background, how you can hear the sounds of a shopping centre check out in the background. It is such a delicate track and yet quite definite and sure at the same time.
I haven’t tired of listening to this song since the day I first heard it.
