someone who's doing some things
There you go, Palm Sounds is 9 years old today. What a journey it has been. I would have never have thought that it would last this long in any form, but it has, and, it appears to still have life in it.
I wonder where it will go next, where it’ll take me. Where mobile music is headed?
Since seeing him live at Denovali Festival at the weekend I’ve been interested to hear his recorded output. So I found him on Spotify and had a listen. Well, I’ve been really enjoying his album ‘Where we were’. I’m fairly sure that a lot of that is what he was playing at the Festival.
I think I could really get into this actually. It has nice way of evolving from one track to another and flowing subtly. It also has quite cinematic overtones too, which I enjoy a lot. So I think I may have to listen to some more of his back catalogue on Spotify and hear what else he’s done. So far so good.
I’ve been a fan of this music app for years now, and I found this photo that I’d taken of it running on three different devices simultaneously. I still use it a lot for making tracks on my iPhone, so I must get back to using it on Windows Mobile soon. It’ll be interesting to see how different it is or isn’t.
I was actually looking forward to this film. So I bought it on blinkbox last night. Well I couldn’t have been more disappointed. It was dull, misogynistic, vaguely pornographic for no apparent reason, and with a very poorly thought through plot that was full of holes and inconsistencies.
Also, it was boring. So boring, so pretentious. such a let down. I’m seriously considering asking for my money back.
If you haven’t seen it, then seriously, don’t bother at all. It’s awful.
When I heard the Fennesz was playing I thought that I had to go along to see him again. It’s been a few years and I love his music. Getting to see everything else on the line up was a bonus really. Here’s the running order:
It was a nice venue on the whole, with the possible exception of people who appeared to think it was ok to just talk all the way through each performance. I just don’t get that at all. Anyway …
I’d never heard Moon Zero before. I thought he was ok. Nice big wall of sound kind of thing. I’ll probably look his stuff up on Spotify and see if I like the recorded versions.
Greg Haines was really good. Again I’d never heard his stuff, but I really did enjoy it and I’m now looking forward to hearing more of his music on Spotify.
Fennesz was great. Played a lot of pieces I love and of course was the main reason for me going in the first place.
I was also looking forward to hearing Jon Hassel but could only stay for a short part of his set sadly. Overall it was a good evening with some new things to listen to soon as well.
When Errol Brown sadly died earlier this month I realised that I had no Hot Chocolate in my collection at all. So when I saw this in a local second hand record shop I had to buy it, and it’s great.
I think I probably need a bit more Hot Chocolate in my life now. In fact, I think probably everyone does.
I haven’t listened to The Modified Toy Orchestra in ages now, so it was great to hear this again. It really is a very well put together album and thoroughly listenable too. Of course it makes me want to listen to older MTO stuff and the ZX Spectrum Orchestra too, which is an amazing album.
I remember seeing Chirp.io back at a Music Tech Fest when it was at Ravensbourne college. It was an interesting idea and I was quite curious about it, but I wasn’t sure how I would use it and how it could be useful. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing of course. Sometimes it takes a while for things to find a place in my world and I like stuff to be actually useful to me.
So when I found that Chirp.io was equity funding on Crowdcube I thought I’d take a look. At the same time they’re expanding chirp into the IoT world with an SDK and Arduino code. It’s getting interesting now. Also, they’ve just announced a Chrome extension, which could be fun.
I wonder where they’ll go next.
