Month: February 2011
Happy Valentine’s Day
Moving forward: Back and Forth
I got to spend some time with my latest music project yesterday. I’ve been experimenting with processing audio through Jasuto which has had some interesting results.
As I said before, I think that the creative process in making these soundscapes may end up being more satisfying that the actual finished product, but at the moment I’m not worrying too much about that. I think I’ll enjoy the process for now and see where I end up with in a couple of months.
Flexi disc
The last time I got a flexi disk was years ago. Today when I opened up my copy of The Wire there was a free flexi disc in there. I was amazed and really pleased too. Now all I have to do is to work out how to play it!
Slightly stalled
My current musical project has had a bit of a stall this week. It isn’t that I’ve lost interest in doing it, rather everything else has taken priority over time this week and so nothing creative has had time to squeeze out.
I’m hoping that I might be able to put that right today or tomorrow. We’ll have to see later, but ideally I’d like to get this project finished this month. It think it is possible, but that doesn’t mean it is likely sadly.
Happy Pallindromic Date Day
I realised earlier that today (11022011) is the same backwords (11022011). So the date is a pallindrome. Cool.
I wonder how often that happens?
When the process is more creative than the music
I’m continuing to work on my new collection of tracks currently called ‘back and forth’. In working on it I suddenly realised that in some ways I was more interested in the creative process of making the pieces than I was with the final finished product itself.
I guess that in many ways the process itself is a journey of discovering something unique from the recorded media itself. This is even more true with field recordings and ‘back and forth’ is sort of field recording based.
Anyway, I’m enjoying the process and the end result is going to be mobile generated as you’d expect.
I am on instagram
So I thought I’d mention that I’m on instagram now if anyone wants to check out my photos there. My user name is ashleyelsdon. No big surprises there then.
You can see some of my instagram stuff on my twitter feed.
Finding Goodreads
I found Goodreads just the other day. I think it is a great idea and it might even stimulate me to reading a little more, but it has also made me think that it would be brilliant to have something similar to it for listening.
Probably ‘goodlistens’ wouldn’t be a great title, but I think that it’s a great idea for collaborative listening. Don’t get me wrong, the listening room is still excellent, but the format of goodreads is one that I think could extend well to music and listening groups too.
Working on ‘Back and Forth’
I managed to get some more work done on my next musical project today. I wasn’t expecting to get much done, but I got a little work completed which felt good. The first phase of the project was quite straightforward, but the next phase is a lot less certain. It is a lot more experimental and I don’t have any fixed idea of what I want to achieve or how I want to achieve it.
I guess the fun is in the discovery or the journey rather. I’ll see how it shapes next week.
