Going over the pages

There’s actually a lot of pages on this site with a wide variety of information in them about stuff. As I’ve moved the site over from my old .com site I thought I should really go over all the pages and check them for errors, especially about downloads which are a little more problematic using wordpress.com.

So over the next few weeks I should have reviewed the lot.

Restarting iOS Automation and beyond

That sounds a bit Buzz Lightyear doesn’t it. It probably isn’t nearly that cool though sadly. Automating doing stuff on your iPhone doesn’t have the same appeal as being Buzz Lightyear. Anyway, back to the subject in hand. I do post about this from time to time. I mention stuff about automating and how it can save time and get things done quicker etc. However, I’m not entirely good at practicing what I preach. My own experiments in automation haven’t been as fruitful. But I plan to change things over the next few weeks and months.

My plan is to find ways of automating things that I actually need to do rather than just automating stuff that seems cool. I also want to only automate when the process of automation doesn’t take so much time to set up that it actually outweighs the time saved in automating whatever it is I wanted to do. Does that make sense?

I’d also like to automate across platforms, into the real world where possible with stuff like WEMO, and find ways to get things done that make sense for me. That’s the plan anyway. I’ll be posting about what works, what doesn’t, what I just don’t get at all, and the stuff I find useful along the way. I hope that it’ll help me or rather, motivate me to get on with it, and it might be useful for one or two people out there too. We shall see.

William Morris at the National Portrait Gallery

IMG_4870

I visited this exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery a couple of weeks ago. Whilst I don’t know a lot about Morris I do like the work I’ve seen so I was really looking forward to seeing something more and learning about him. However, I was a bit disappointed really. Firstly it was quite a small exhibition, and for £12 I did expect a bit more. Secondly, the exhibition was much more about his influence in political and artistic circles rather than being about him.

Don’t get me wrong, it was good, for what it was, but it wasn’t really what I had expected or envisaged. A bit of a shame really.

Something new in Automation: Action: Save to Dropbox (Trimmed Title) | Drafts Action Directory

Here’s something new for my Automation obsession:

“This action demonstrates use of Javascript to create a file name safe string from the first line of a draft which may contain characters (such as a Markdown…”

Via Action: Save to Dropbox (Trimmed Title) | Drafts Action Directory .

More experiments with Romo

Experimenting with attaching other devices to the Romo. The idea was to use a simple velcro patch to attach a little light sensitive instrument to the front of the Romo. That way it could make a noise depending on how much light was going into it.

It did work. It was ok, but not that interesting. However, it means I can attach other stuff to Romo and do some more experiments at some point. Which I will do.

The Night of the Triffids

Another excellent production from Big Finish. The Night of the Triffids is a follow on from the original story, set 25 years into the future. As I’d really enjoyed a number of the interpretations of the original story I thought I’d try this follow up. I wasn’t disappointed at all.

As with almost every story I’ve listened to from Big Finish it was excellent, and, in places, very moving too. In some ways I hope that the writer would do a follow up to the follow up. I doubt that will happen, but I can always hope.
