Finishing off Survivors

I’ve been watching the BBC’s re-make of the Survivors for a while, including a large gap in watching. But now, I’ve finished it. It only got 2 seasons, and I think it could have gone on for longer, but never mind. In the end I thought it was very good. Very good for a post apocalyptic view of the world. It wasn’t as bleak as some, like “The Road” for instance, but it was quite an interesting perspective.

8th Doctor: The Witch from the Well

I listened to this a little while ago and was pleasantly surprised by what a great little story it was. I always enjoy stories where there are multiple simultaneous time zones involved. Although it invariably makes it a more complex to understand. But this was a good one. A great story with plenty going on and lots of pace too.

Thoroughly recommend it.

Liberator Chronicles Volume 1

I’ve now listened to all three stories in this boxed set, and overall I have to say that they were disappointing. It’s a real shame though. They had the potential to be way better than this, but the production was just not up to the normal Big Finish standard, and I’m a little shocked by that really. It leaves me in two minds as to whether or not to go for the next set of Blake’s 7 stories.

Maybe I need to take a closer look at the next set before jumping in.

4th Doctor: The Sun Makers

Ok, by no means the greatest, but certainly a very credible story for the 4th Doctor, and with some very interesting dimensions to the story. There seems to be elements relating to tax, i.e. a corridor called P45 and the guards being the internal retinue, but also a lot of suggestions that the story was also about the BBC at the time and the bureaucratic nature of the organisation.

Whichever it is, or even if it is both I don’t mind really. It was a good story with some interesting ideas and of course a performance from Blake’s 7’s own Michael Keating which pre-dates his role as Vila.

I enjoyed it anyway.

Blake’s 7: The Liberator Chronicles 1.2 Solitary

The second part of the first box set of Liberator Chronicles. This time a story all about Vila. Although it seemed to take a while to get going it wasn’t a bad story really, but it lacked pace and excitement. Perhaps partly because it was a largely narrated story.

So far the chronicles boxed set hasn’t lived up to my expectations. I’ve only one more CD to go!

Blake’s 7: Season 1

I’ve just finished watching season 1 of Blake’s 7, and I’ve loved every minute of it. It’s been wonderful. I’m really looking forward to the next two seasons, which I’ll almost certainly watch soon enough. The more I watch Blake’s 7 the more I realise just how underrated it was.

So, on to season 2.

Blake’s 7: The Liberator Chronicles 1.1: The Turing Test

I’d been really looking forward to getting this set of three stories. They arrived this morning and I’ve just finished listening to the first of them. So far I’m sad to say that I’m a little disappointed in them. For a start it isn’t a full cast drama, it’s effectively narrated by Paul Darrow with some additional voice from Michael Keating. That’s ok, but really I’d have preferred a full cast for this. Secondly, the story was ok, but not brilliant.

So I’m hopeful that the next two stories will live up to my expectations a little better. I’ll let you know as I go.

8th Doctor: The Company of Friends

This is the one I was missing. An interesting experiment almost with the 8th doctor. The main reason I decided to buy it was to get the first Mary Shelley story, which did set the scene very well.

I enjoyed the other stories too, some more than others. But most of all it opened me up to the other 8th Doctor stories that are out there. Not big finish stuff, not audio. Now I have to decided if I’m going to get into those too!

Dalek Empire

Another spin off from Big Finish. It wasn’t a bad story at all really, and another that I’ll probably go on with and get the next episode and see how that goes.

Cyberman 2: Fear

I was keen to listen to the next installment of the Cyberman story. Although I really enjoyed the first one I found the second episode a bit confusing on the whole. That may have been because I’m listening to a bunch of stories simultaneously, I don’t know. I’ll probably keep on with this series as there’s only 4 episodes in total.
