Doctor Who: The Light at the End – The Revenants

The Revenants was a bonus story on the end of the Big Finish 50th anniversary story “The Light at the End”. I’d meant to listen to it ages ago and just hadn’t got to it, so today I put that right. It’s a companion chronicles story from the 1st Doctor and it’s very nicely put together and is completely in keeping with the 1st Doctor’s stories and style. I liked that. It has a sense of continuity about it.

I actually quite enjoyed it, although I don’t think I’ll be rushing out to get other 1st Doctor companion stories any time soon. Even so, I can see the attraction. It was a good listen. But then, what else would you expect from Big Finish?

Doctor Who: White Ghosts

Another excellent story in the 4th Doctor adventures from Big Finish. It picked up from the last episode and kept the pace going the whole way through. It’s a classic story type for Doctor Who as well. Thoroughly enjoyable. Every minute of it.

And then Dark Eyes 2 arrived

I only recently listened to the first Dark Eyes again and I loved it. I do find it interesting just how different the 4th and 8th Doctor stories are. So I’ve been waiting for Dark Eyes for some time now and here it is. Running at just over 5 hours of content which includes an hour and a quarter of behind the scenes stuff too.

It’ll be great to get into it. I’ll tell you how it goes.

4th Doctor: The Energy of the Daleks

Another great story from the first series of fourth Doctor stories from Big Finish, and I can barely remember it from the first time around. I listened to it yesterday and it’s awesome. A classic Dalek romp.

I hadn’t realised that Leela had never done a Dalek story. In fact, the fourth doctor didn’t do many either. Primarily Genesis and Destiny of the Daleks. Neither of which contained Leela. So this story is very significant indeed.

Journey to the far side of the sun …

I remember this film although not very well, and as a big Gerry Anderson fan I thought I’d give it a try. It’s a very leisurely film with so many Gerry Anderson touches I almost thought I was watching UFO or Space 1999, and of course there’s nothing wrong with that at all.

Anyway, overall the film didn’t really live up to either my recollections or my expectations. There’s nothing wrong with it as film of its time, but it isn’t really a classic, not in my book anyway.

4th Doctor: Philip Hinchcliffe Presents

I’m really looking forward to this. Two stories, a six part and a four part. I love the longer and more involved stories and with Philip Hinchcliffe it’s going to be excellent.

Big Finish really are awesome and are putting out some truly awesome content these days.

4th Doctor: The Renaissance Man

Today’s Doctor Who story was the second episode from the first series. A story called the renaissance man. I remember this, well, a bit anyway, but not in any detail, so it was wonderful to listen to it again today. It’s a completely awesome story. With a superb cast and what is in fact a very complex and deep plot.

It was like hearing the story for the first time. So tomorrow I’m on to the next story in season 1.

Destination Nerva

I first listened to this story in January 2012. It is the first story that Tom Baker did for Big Finish productions, so it’s kind of a milestone, and not only that, it’s actually a lovely story too. It picks up directly after The Talons of Weng Chiang, which is arguably one of the best Doctor Who stories ever, so an excellent place to start in my opinion.

The story is set on the Nerva dock, which is of course the same as the Nerva Beacon, a location that crops up many times in Doctor Who. The cast is excellent, the action and the story are a joy. It’s a great way to have started his audio stories on Big Finish, and it’s lovely to listen to them again whilst I wait for the season 3 episodes to arrive every month. I think I may have to run through the whole season now that I’ve started.
