Hearing from an old friend

I was listening to an old track that I’d made with a friend a long time ago. It’s something I was really proud of. Something that I think really stands the test of time. I hadn’t heard from him in a couple of years so I sent him a text and got a really quick reply, and it looks like we’ll be meeting up in the not too distant future. That made my day.

App revisit: Randgrid

This app is one that hasn’t seen an update in years I think. It’s one of the original synth / drum machine apps, and whilst the interface isn’t great, especially by today’s standards, it has a nice randomise function to it which can be quite fun to play with.

So I think it can stay on my music iPhone 3G.

The Birds EP – Telefon Tel Aviv

A big thank you to Gerren who pointed out to me that this EP had been released. I had no idea and probably wouldn’t have noticed for ages and ages. I listened to it yesterday and it’s great, I really do love their blend of electronica, and this EP has some nice remix work on it too. So it’s a good addition to my Telefon Tel Aviv collection.

Suzanne Ciani – Lixiviation

I listened to this album for the first time yesterday. It’s a really interesting mix of her commercial and decidedly non-commercial work, although I’ve preferred listening to the non-commercial stuff most.

As an introduction to her music it’s quite interesting and will probably encourage me to listen to more.

After listening to ‘Aye’ by Martyn Bennett for a while

I wasn’t sure about this album but got it anyway. But having listened to it for the best part of 2 days I do like it. I don’t like all of it, I don’t like all the new material, but I think that some of the stuff that I haven’t heard before is really good. I’m glad I got it and I’m glad it was released.

Aye, by Martyn Bennett

I just got this album after it came out last week, and in many ways I’m looking forward to hearing it as I still love Martyn’s Grit album, which is completely awesome. I just hope that I haven’t set my expectations too high.

30 years since ‘Only You’ was released

Who could believe it? I had no idea that Yazoo was that old! It’s funny as I saw Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet play at the Mute festival at the Roundhouse last year and I thought they were brilliant.

I think I’ll have to listen to some Yazoo tomorrow.
