The Sons of Kaldor

One of my all time favourite 4th Doctor episodes is “The Robots of Death”. It’s a great story and has some truly fantastic lines. It has been followed up a couple of times as far as I’m aware. One of the follow ups was “Corpse Marker“, a BBC audio book which I was really excited about, but fundamentally didn’t deliver on its promise and was, in the end, a real disappointment.

The next one I’m away of is “Robophobia”, which is a 7th Doctor story from Big Finish. I’m not a big 7th Doctor fan and so I haven’t heard this one. Perhaps I should give it a listen.

Now there’s “Sons of Kaldor”, the first story in the latest season of the 4th Doctor from Big Finish. I was a bit nervous about this story. I didn’t want to face the same disappointment as I had with “Corpse Market“. I didn’t need to worry about that. “Sons of Kaldor” has a very similar tone and pace to the original Robots of Death, it’s been carefully thought through and at its core it’s a good story.

The most important thing is that I really enjoyed it, and it’s a good start to volume one of this season. I’ve now listened to all of the stories and they’re a good bunch, and well worth listening to.

Dream Draw on Spotify

I’ve finally managed to get a release out on Spotify. That is to say, I managed to get it out at the end of last year. It’s called ‘Dream Draw‘. You can have a listen by heading over to Spotify. I hope you like it.

All of the tracks were made on mobile using Aurora Sound Studio on an iPhone and iPad. Various effects were used during the creation of the EP. I quite like it.

Stands (part 1)

You just can’t beat a good stand. Something to put an instrument on, to make it easier to access. However, not all sounds are made equal. This is a ukulele stand I got for Christmas. I always prefer something made in wood rather than metal or plastic, and this has a very natural and organic feel to it. Plus, it works well as a stand.

But this is part 1 for a reason. Because there are instruments that you can’t find stands for, and in those situations you have to try something different. That’s for part 2.

Blues Brothers Banned

I’ve been a big fan of the music of the Blues Brothers for a very long time now. Since I first saw the film. Many years ago I saw the original band at the old Town and Country Club. It was an awesome gig. But they don’t tour so much these days, and not all of them are around anymore sadly.

However, you can go and see the Blues Brother Banned. I’ve seen them before, and yesterday they were playing at the 100 Club on Oxford Street London. It was a good gig and the 100 Club isn’t a bad venue. It’s small, you can get close to the stage very easily and the beer isn’t bad at all. What else could you ask for?

The gig was fine. They played a lot of favourites and a few more obscure tracks too. Given the time of year it was also a bit of a party gig, and whilst that was ok, I’d have rather that they played more stuff from the film. But never mind. I enjoyed it anyway, and I’d probably go see them again if the chance comes up.

The 13th Redhill Beer Festival

I don’t think I’ve ever been to this beer festival. It’s one that I’ve meant to go to, but never got to. However, when I saw the logo for this festival I knew I had to go for it, and it wasn’t bad really.

There was a reasonable selection of ales and some good milds too, several of which I sampled on Friday night. I can safely say that I’ll probably do this one again though.
