I bought this little keyboard for my San Francisco Android phone. It works great with my iPhone 4, it pairs straight away and works like a dream. However, the San Francisco won’t see it at all and I can’t seem to find any software for it only. Maybe I’ll get it working tomorrow.
Category: TV
Yep, TV stuff. I like watching TV. Not all TV, but some shows.
TV is where the next tech revolution will be
I’ve been reading a lot of stuff over the last few days about what’s happening in TV. Especially about Samsung and their latest upgradable offering with gesture and facial recognition. All very impressive stuff. But, in many ways just a meshing of existing technologies from other sectors and form factors and nothing (as far as I can see) that is unique to or for the TV experience. Which is a shame really.
I’m not sure if I share the pundit’s view that TV is the next battle ground. It may be. It is certainly an area where there is plenty of room for innovation, which is in one way very good for the consumer, and in another very bad, as there will be winners and losers in a market land grab for TV, and some technologies will fall even if they are good.
So in some ways it’s a good time to buy a new TV and in others it isn’t. Maybe I’ll wait a couple of months or more.
Doctor Who, Creature from the Pit
Another Tom Baker DVD added to my collection. Certainly not the best story, but ok I guess. A shame really as the episodes on either side were really good.
Never mind. One step closer to a full set I suppose.
Sarah Jane Adventures
I finally watched the last few episodes of the Sarah Jane Adventures. I’d been putting it off for a while as I almost didn’t want to admit that these would be the last episodes.
They were great, and I’m glad I saw them.
Sarah-Jane Adventures
I just watched the first of the new series of the Sarah-Jane Adventures. Of course this will be the last series for obvious reasons. It is sad and strange to watch Elizabeth Sladen on TV when you know she’s no longer around, but also I think she’d be really pleased that people are watching it.
Doctor Who, Series Finale
I don’t know if it is just me, but I found the last series of Doctor Who a bit of a disappointment. I thought that it went off the boil half way through and the series finale was a real let down.
It may be that my expectations of this series were just too high, or perhaps the hype had set them too high? Also I think that when it started there were lots of really good plot lines that have simply been left hanging around and I think that’s a bit of a waste really.
I’m sure I’ll keep watching it, and the Christmas special seems to have a great cast, but it just doesn’t seem as good as before. Perhaps I just prefer the old style Dr Who. Maybe I’ll stick with that.
Torchwood, what’s that all about that eh?
I’ve just watched the latest episode of Touchwood Miracle Day, and I have to say that I’m disappointed so far. The basic concept behind the story is excellent, but there are so many plot lines and threads that I have no idea how this is going to turn out.
One thing I do worry about is that it’ll be as big a disappointment as Children of Earth was. That was a great story and a terrible ending.
Falling Skies
Let me just start with the fact that this show should be called falling ratings as that is undoubtedly what will happen to it.
I hate it when I see a show that’s meant to be a science fiction programme that is in fact just a drama set in a broadly science fiction theme. It just seems so pointless. The aliens are just an afterthought, they have no characters, they’re just incidental to the plot. So why make it a science fiction show if you can’t be bothered with the science fiction at all?
I’ll probably stick with it, but I don’t know why.
Falling Skies
I watched episode 1 of this ‘sci-fi’ show tonight and was almost instantly disappointed. I suppose it could get better, but so far it is no BSG and doesn’t look like it will be capable of being one.
I could be wrong. It could improve, but for now I don’t think it will. I’m sure I’ll still watch it, but I’m not hopeful of that being a worthwhile experience.
Caprica
I watched what I assume was the final episode of Caprica the other night. I shan’t spoil the story for you if it is something that you might watch at some point, but the series has been on my mind for a while now so I thought I’d jot down a few notes about it.
I was really pleased that there was going to be a BSG prequel. I really enjoyed BSG and the thought of something that would run right up to the start of the series was a great idea.
Although I found Caprica slow and at times overly complex, it was in many ways very similar in structure to BSG and so there was a common theme within it, That worked, and worked well I thought, but I could understand people finding it too slow and intricate to stick with. Taken together, then entire BSG stories form an amazing re-telling of the original 80’s series. If you put them side by side I think it could be hard to recognise one as the start point for the other even though they share many of the same characters.
Caprica, even though it is a prequel almost defined the point at which BSG diverged from the original, which is a strange way to tell a story, but for me it worked.
I think at some point I’d like to watch the whole thing again, but perhaps that might be too big an undertaking, and perhaps it would damage my memory of BSG as can often happen when you re-watch something.
I’m glad I stuck with Caprica. I wish there was something else that could come from the BSG universe, but I can’t see how. Maybe the franchise has run it’s course, but then again, money talks and with the following it has perhaps someone will want to squeeze more out of it. If they do I’ll give it a go, but I hope it isn’t at the expense of quality.
