Trying out Netflix

I decided to check out Netflix to see if it was worth the £5.99 a month that they charge. So I’ve started out my trial today. My first look through showed that a load of things that I’m interested in they just don’t have. So that’s not a good start, but they do have a few things that I’ve been meaning to see or catch up with, so I’ll try it out for a while and see how it goes.

One thing I’ve noticed is that the picture quality isn’t always wonderful and the service cuts out on a regular basis.

Star Trek: Mudd’s Women

Another totally classic episode from the original series. I watched this one last night, and it was great! Interesting to see how some scenes have been remastered and enhanced, like the shots of the ship.

Classic Trek: The Enemy Within

This is a fantastic episode from the original series. A great idea and a superb opportunity for Mr Shatner to play both sides and have a load of fun with it.

I’m really enjoying the original series, it’s a great to see these old stories.

Watching old Star Trek

CBS Action has been running old episodes of Star Trek the original series, starting with the original pilot episode. It’s great to see these again, as I haven’t watched the original series for years now. The story lines are actually quite complex and if you look past the 1960’s sets and special effects.

I’m really enjoying watching these.

Remembering Elizabeth Sladen today

She would have been 66 years old today. We remember a wonderful actress who made a huge contribution to British Science Fiction and was brilliant in Doctor Who and her own excellent series.

She is missed.

iDroid on my 3G, a bit of an update

So I’ve actually got an Android app running on my 3G under iDroid, and it actually works. It doesn’t work very well, but it does work. The app I managed to get running was Beat Dialer. The other app I tried to get to work was Tasker, but for reasons that I just don’t understand it will not install at all. Which is a shame really.

A little keyboard

I bought this little keyboard for my San Francisco Android phone. It works great with my iPhone 4, it pairs straight away and works like a dream. However, the San Francisco won’t see it at all and I can’t seem to find any software for it only. Maybe I’ll get it working tomorrow.

Doctor Who, Creature from the Pit

Another Tom Baker DVD added to my collection. Certainly not the best story, but ok I guess. A shame really as the episodes on either side were really good.

Never mind. One step closer to a full set I suppose.

Torchwood, what’s that all about that eh?

I’ve just watched the latest episode of Touchwood Miracle Day, and I have to say that I’m disappointed so far. The basic concept behind the story is excellent, but there are so many plot lines and threads that I have no idea how this is going to turn out.

One thing I do worry about is that it’ll be as big a disappointment as Children of Earth was. That was a great story and a terrible ending.

Falling Skies

Let me just start with the fact that this show should be called falling ratings as that is undoubtedly what will happen to it.

I hate it when I see a show that’s meant to be a science fiction programme that is in fact just a drama set in  a broadly science fiction theme. It just seems so pointless. The aliens are just an afterthought, they have no characters, they’re just incidental to the plot. So why make it a science fiction show if you can’t be bothered with the science fiction at all?

I’ll probably stick with it, but I don’t know why.
