I really wanted to see Heroes, but when it was on the BBC it was always shifting around on the schedules, so I never got to see the whole thing. So, now it’s on Netflix I can see the whole thing, although I’m not sure that I’ll get to see it all in my free trial. We’ll see.
Category: TV
Yep, TV stuff. I like watching TV. Not all TV, but some shows.
The Day of the Triffids
I watched this when it was on the BBC originally and thought it was a very good version, so it was good to see it again on Netflix. The performances were very good and some interesting choices on casting, and the triffids didn’t look too awful, which is really hard to do I’m sure.
The only downside is that on netflix it cuts out every few seconds!
Trying out Netflix
I decided to check out Netflix to see if it was worth the £5.99 a month that they charge. So I’ve started out my trial today. My first look through showed that a load of things that I’m interested in they just don’t have. So that’s not a good start, but they do have a few things that I’ve been meaning to see or catch up with, so I’ll try it out for a while and see how it goes.
One thing I’ve noticed is that the picture quality isn’t always wonderful and the service cuts out on a regular basis.
Star Trek: Mudd’s Women
Another totally classic episode from the original series. I watched this one last night, and it was great! Interesting to see how some scenes have been remastered and enhanced, like the shots of the ship.
Classic Trek: The Enemy Within
This is a fantastic episode from the original series. A great idea and a superb opportunity for Mr Shatner to play both sides and have a load of fun with it.
I’m really enjoying the original series, it’s a great to see these old stories.
Watching old Star Trek
CBS Action has been running old episodes of Star Trek the original series, starting with the original pilot episode. It’s great to see these again, as I haven’t watched the original series for years now. The story lines are actually quite complex and if you look past the 1960’s sets and special effects.
I’m really enjoying watching these.
Remembering Elizabeth Sladen today
She would have been 66 years old today. We remember a wonderful actress who made a huge contribution to British Science Fiction and was brilliant in Doctor Who and her own excellent series.
She is missed.
iDroid on my 3G, a bit of an update
So I’ve actually got an Android app running on my 3G under iDroid, and it actually works. It doesn’t work very well, but it does work. The app I managed to get running was Beat Dialer. The other app I tried to get to work was Tasker, but for reasons that I just don’t understand it will not install at all. Which is a shame really.
Pizza, Beer and the Genesis of the Daleks
On Mr Baker’s birthday I thought it would be ideal to watch what is arguably one of the best Doctor Who stories ever. The six part ‘Genesis of the Daleks’, and what better way to watch it than with a pizza and a beer.
These days you just wouldn’t get a story split into 6 parts, but back in 1975 it was perfectly normal. Genesis of the Daleks was a complex story with a lot of characters who come and go throughout the whole six parts. It’s a great story too.
So why didn’t he destroy the Daleks? Well I guess we’re all glad he didn’t right?
Classic Who: The Horror of Fang Rock
A wonderful Tom Baker story. Thoroughly enjoyable with classic Leela-ness about it too. I also liked ‘The Horror of Glam Rock’, the 8th doctor story of a similar name, with an excellent Bernard Cribbens performance.
