My shapeways sample kit arrived. I decided to get this to see what the options were like for 3D print materials from them. It’s a handy reference, and apparently I get a $25 store credit too. So all in all not a bad deal really.

At times wonderful, and at times totally frustrating too. That’s technology, my experience of it anyway. I do a lot of stuff with technology and I suspect I will continue to do that.

The next elements: Infrared Distance Sensor

I’ve posted about the molecule synth ‘table of elements‘ before. It’s such a great idea with some great molecules / elements to come. But I thought I’d dwell on a few of them just to mention the ones I really am excited about.
I’m not quite sure what the infrared distance sensor will actually do, but I can tell you what I’d like it to do at some point in the future, or indeed when it first arrives.
I’d love to be able to use the infrared to receive an infrared signal from a Nebulophone, or even a Palm OS PDA. The output could be as an LFO or other controller.
I hope it’ll be the first or one of the first to be launched.
Using Makey Makey to control Spotify
A few first steps with the Makey Makey. I’d like to use this with some music stuff, we’ll see how that goes.

Things about “Drafts” (iOS App)
I’ve had this app for a week or so now and although it has some amazing functionality I’m still not entirely sure what I want to do with it or how it’ll ever be useful. It’s sort of in the ‘solution in search of a problem’ camp.
The app itself has a huge amount of functionality to it. It’s able to share text and mark up to a very wide number of services and can be configured very easily to do this. So much so that I actually made a little search function for drafts that allows you to send a piece of text into Palm Sounds (blog) and search the entire site with that text. It’s pretty simple. The search URL is:
https://www.google.com/search?q=site:palmsounds.net+%5B%5Bdraft%5D%5D
Yep, that’s all there is to it. You put that into drafts and you can send any text to search Palm Sounds.
So that’s all well and good, but, what’s it for? What can I use it for? The short answer is I haven’t really thought of a reason as yet. Which is a bit of a shame as I think this is a clever app.
When I think of one, I’ll let you know.
