Did Apple kill Instapaper?

Now that Apple has announced a ‘read it later’ feature in mobile safari does that mean that services like instapaper and read-it-later are doomed?

I hope they aren’t. Both of these services are really useful in different ways from each other and my bet would be that Apple’s version within mobile safari won’t be as good but could damage the existing apps and their business models.

Of cours there’s a certain sense of inevitability with services like this that can be subsumed into the OS. My hope is that both of these will develop and expand their services beyond what Apple bring in the autumn, but I guess I’ll have to wait and see. I’d hate to see them disappear.

Say hello to Sunday

Sunday can be an odd day. Sometimes a day of rest, other times the exact opposite. Sometimes with now discernible structure to it, and other times far too much. I find it an odd day to get to grips with. Especially at the moment. Sunday seems to play a strange game with me, giving me the impression that I have plenty of time to get all of those things done that have been mounting up all week, and more indeed, and yet I know that there isn’t time and it is just an illusion!

A bit to metaphysical for a Sunday afternoon perhaps? I think so. I should just go back to making some music and ignoring the bills that need paying!

Play

I was thinking about playing and being playful the other day. I realised that as adults we find it harder to just play and enjoy things rather than doing something for a reason or a purpose, which is a bit of shame really

Children are really good at this as is very obvious, but I’m not so good at it anymore and I think I need to change that a bit and become more child-like, although plenty of people think I am infantile already.

Too many plans

I think that I probably have too many plans and ideas. My list of things to do, try, and investigate seems to grow routinely and never reduce.

Sometimes I wonder if I should just give up on some ideas and plans, but when I come to it I just can’t.

That probably accounts for why things don’t get done. So is it better to have too big a list or to give up on things? I’m not sure.

Wash out

Some days things just don’t go to plan. This weekend fits that description very well indeed. I had loads of things planned, and the chance of doing any of them = 0.

I guess that sometimes things just don’t go your way and you have to accept it, but weekends are precious and when they don’t work out it feels like a very big let down.

Still, get over it, move on, etc etc …

Things to look forward to in March

There’s quite a few things I’m looking forward to in March to be fair. Here’s a selection:

  1. New Blancmange album is going to be released
  2. I’m going to see Blancmange live
  3. A new Human league album is coming, who knows what it will be like
  4. John Foxx and the Maths bring out their new album (I’ve got it on order already)

There’s a few more too, but that lot is worth waiting for if nothing else. Lots of new music coming. Excellent.
