Well, this category is about books. Not just reading, but often for me, listening, as I do love audiobooks a lot. Although you can probably tell that by now.
Apparently this is the last in this series of Torchwood, although series 2 starts next month. Anyway, it looks like an interesting story and I’m looking forward to hearing it as it feels like a long gap since the last episode. Although I know it isn’t in reality.
I got this on sale at Big Finish, and, as I do quite like Colin Baker’s audio stories I thought it would be a good one. To be fair it isn’t bad at all, it’s ok. It’s part of the main range, which is about 200 stories. The main range is where I found Big Finish, with the first few Paul McGann stories. I keep meaning to go back to the main range and see what I should get.
I listened to this yesterday. Not a bad story if a little one dimensional. The idea isn’t a new one, but, as often with Torchwood, was taken much further than I’ve seen it taken before, and possibly would have liked to have seen (or rather heard) it taken before.
I didn’t feel it moved the story arc on any further though, not really. That was a bit of a wasted opportunity in my view. There isn’t anything more known about the arc than at the start of this episode. I’ll stick with the series, but I’d like to see (hear) it move forward a bit more than it is right now.
This is a real return to form. I absolutely love it. I shan’t give anything away just in case you’re likely to listen to it, but it is a lovely story and a great one for Romana II to return to. It has the feel of another delightful story, “The Auntie Matter”, which is gorgeous.
If this is setting the tone for this season then I’m going to be very happy indeed.
I’ve been meaning to get hold of the book of True Grit and now I’ve got it. I picked up a copy on eBay very cheaply indeed. My only issue with the book is that the cover is of the newer version of the film and not the original, which I would’ve preferred. It’s not a big thing, but it’s just there.

I was skeptical about this audiobook as I thought it would just be too short get a real story going. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Even though it was short, only 35 minutes long, it was great. A good, self contained Doctor Who story. Well narrated by Louise Jameson too.
So I might need to look into a few more of these short trips stories now.
So far, and we’re on day 5 of 12 I presume, I’ve either already got them or I’ve not wanted them. So they’ve not been the best of offers from my perspective, although I’m sure that they’re very good for other people. Just not me.
Of course, the current humble bundle for Big Finish (Worlds of Doctor Who) is very good, and I’m hoping that tomorrow they’ll add even more books to it. As for Big Finish’s own offers, I’m hoping that the next few will be a little more appealing to me. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.
