Problems with comments

I briefly turned the comments back on here a while back only to receive a flood of spam comments. So I’ve turned them off again. This is a bit of a problem as things aren’t very interactive really.

So instead you can always talk to me on twitter or even facebook if you want to. I suppose I’ll eventually figure out a good way of sorting out the comment spam, but to give you an idea of the ratio, there have been roughly 600 comments, or which less than 50 are not spam.

New menu, ‘Apps’

I know it’s a bit of a cliche really, everything is about apps now isn’t it. You just can’t get away from it really. Even so, there’s now an ‘Apps’ menu on the blog. What does it mean? Well it’s more for web apps that run on the site really, and nothing to do with iOS or Android apps at all.

So hopefully this section will expand over the next few months with some more interesting apps arriving. We’ll see. I’ll keep you posted.

Clearing out some old audio clips

I’m clearing out recordings from FIRe (my fav iPhone field recording app), so expect a bunch of recordings in the next few hours. Some of them are quite big though.

A bit of a shift around

I’ve been doing a little housekeeping or re-organising to be more precise. Trying to make things look better and make more sense in terms of layout. So if things appear to be moving strangely or aren’t where you expect them to be now you know the reason why.

Playing around with Dashcode

I’ve been messing around with Dashcode for a few days, and I have a few ideas and plans of things I might make, so you may see a few things crop up over the coming weeks which will add a little bit more fun to the site.

Reaching the end of ‘Things’

I’ve been a user of ‘Things’ for Mac and the iPhone for some time now, but during that time I’ve increasingly become less and less content with how the desktop and device apps work. It got to the point where the whole thing just ceased working as a task management system at all.

It is a shame really as Cultured Code are a nice company and they’ve been promising lots of new functionality for a long time, it just hasn’t arrived as yet. Also, compared to a lot of other apps ‘Things’ is a very expensive solution, which is one of the reasons I’ve held off moving to a different app / system.

Anyway, I’ve moved to Toodledo and it is working out really well so far.

Having said all that I just read this post at the Cultured Code site on their cloud sync solution. Let’s see what it looks like when it finally comes through.

Messing around with Processing

I’ve been messing around with Processing JS for a few days as it seems to be easier to put .js sketches into a web site than standard Processing sketches, and it is. But, whilst it makes a lot of sense to use processing.js with WordPress, sadly processing.js isn’t so good at audio, and a lot of my processing stuff is audio related.

So I’m going back to straight Processing for now as I know I can get the audio librarys to work with that.

Never mind

I’ve been meaning to do this for a while

Having written a blog that’s just about mobile music for just over 4 years I thought maybe I’d start to write something about me and what I’m up to. A more personal journal if you like. This blog won’t be about the world of mobile music. Although I’m sure that there will be lots of creative stuff that I want to talk about and some of that will inevitably be mobile related in some way. But that’s not essentially what my own blog is about. Having said that, I’m not entirely sure what it is about, but I can tell you what it won’t be about, which is at least a start.

It isn’t about:

  • Boring rants and complaints about the state of this, that or the other in the world / neighborhood
  • It isn’t about what I’m having for lunch
  • It won’t contain excessively dull family details about holidays and days out
  • It won’t just be a another Palm Sounds, although there’ll be a little bit of an overlap

What it will be about will evolve over time, and as it does it’ll be interesting for me to see where it goes.So don’t feel bad if you decide not to read this blog and just stick with Palm Sounds. That’s fine with me.If you do stay with this, the please let me know what you think. As always, I’m interested in comments.
