Some random photos from the Field Day festival I went to today. I’ll post some more stuff about what I liked etc tomorrow or soon anyway.

Sucker Punch
I watched this the other night. I wasn’t entirely sure what my expectations of the film were, but whatever they were, having watched it I can say that it is a thoroughly amazing film. In same ways the way it is constructed on a number of levels makes me think of Inception, which is a major favourite of mine.
As for the story itself, it is both moving and highly inventive. I really enjoyed it and certainly didn’t see how it was going to turn out. On the whole I’d thoroughly recommend it.

Concretedog on projects and purpose
I really liked this post from the ever interesting Concretedog. I absolutely agree with his thoughts on this.I’d probably go further and say that an element of experimentalism in everything is worth attempting.
So, make, experiment, learn stuff, and most of all, have fun doing it.
Big Finish: Gallifrey
I mentioned that I was going to try out some of the spin off series from Big Finish. I’ve listened to the first episode of this, and it isn’t bad. Lalla Ward and Louise Jameson don’t do a bad job of carrying this story very well.
Quite enjoyable really. I’ll seriously consider getting the next one, in a while anyway.
Romo recharging
Trying out some new things from Big Finish
I can’t help but enjoy listening to Big Finish’s releases. I’ve been listening to and enjoying the 8th Doctor releases, and more recently I’ve been listening to the 4th Doctor stories too. So I thought it would be interesting to have a try at listening to some of the other series that they publish.
So I decided to buy the first episode of a number of the spin off series. Here’s what I bought:
- Gallifrey
- Cyberman
- I, Davros
- Dalek Empire
I’m going to give them a go and see if any of them are worth going further with.
Romo from the desktop
I’ve been using the Romo desktop Mac OSX app as well recently, and it’s really good. It’s very useful to be able to use the arrow keys to steer with, almost better than the virtual joystick. The only downside is that there’s no way to record video from it. Even so, it’s good to have another way to control Romo.
Looking forward to Field Day
I’m off to the Field Day festival for the day on Saturday. Most of all I’m looking forward to seeing Fennesz and Laurel Halo, but I’m also quite open to whatever else I might hear. It’s quite nice to go along to events like this one and just seeing some new music and having a nice day out.
I’ll let you know how it goes.
Romo returns!
It has been just over a week since I sent my Romo off to Germany to have his main board’s firmware updated to work with an EU smartphone. He’s back, and he works just fine now. In fact, he seems to be as good as new.
After all this time it’s great to be playing around with my Romo and enjoying such a clever idea. Now I want more from my Romo apps already!
