Purley Festival, day 1

Whilst I was only there for a couple of hours today it’s lovely to see a local event like this and see so many people enjoying the park and some live music.

Bees

I was fascinated to see these bees at a local flower show especially given all the news there is in the press about bees dying. They were very beautiful and the noise they made was so interesting I wish I’d had the chance to record them.

My app of the week this week is Dispatch

Email is one of those things that always gets me down. I never seem to be on top of email, but this app helps, it helps a lot. Dispatch lets you do all sorts of things with email that other apps or services don’t, things like saving URLs directly from an email to instapaper or pocket. Taking dates and making calendar entries from them.

You get the idea. A lot of what it does is obvious, but I’ve not seen a way of doing this elsewhere. So finally I might get a bit more of a handle on email. Maybe.

When things stop

I had thought that I had all of July to sort out my google reader account. I was wrong. Google reader shuts down on the 1st of July, just over a month away! The realisation only came yesterday. So what should I do? Procrastination hasn’t helped at all, but thankfully feedly have a solution, and not only a solution but one that works with one of my favourite solutions IFTTT. Problem solved.

But it makes me think. We (I) depend on services like google reader, and of course these services won’t go on for ever, companies start things and stop things and when they do you have to use something else of find a different way of doing the things you need to get done. I’m sure at some point feedly will do something different or IFTTT will stop connecting things.

It’s the way of things I guess that’s all, but it does make life inconvenient at times.

Doctor Who: The Dalek Contract

Great to have David Warner back in this story. It’s a 2 part story so the next part won’t arrive until next month, but in some ways I don’t want it to as it’s going to mean the end of this season and therefore the last Mary Tamm story. It’s such a shame.

Anyway, this is a great story on it’s own, a real classic Doctor Who style story. I love them and Tom Baker and Mary Tamm are amazing as always.
