Goodbye D84, all the best, we will miss you

After watching The Robots of Death recently I had to look out some of my favourite D84 quotes as his character was brilliantly written.

So here they are:

DOCTOR: Well, if Taren Capel is on board, he’d have a workshop, and we must find it before it’s too late. Would you like to come with me?
D84: Yes, please.
DOCTOR: Good. Come on then.

D84: I heard a cry.
DOCTOR: That was me.
D84: I heard a cry.
DOCTOR: That was me!
D84: I heard a cry.
DOCTOR: That was me.
D84: I heard a cry.

D84: It is a Laserson probe. It can punch a fist sized hole in six inch armour plate or take the crystals from a snowflake one by one.

D84: Please do not throw hands at me.

D84: Poul is damaged. I do not understand what has happened to him. This may be because I am not human.

D84: Goodbye, my friend.

What an excellent story. I might have to go and watch it all over again now.

Listening to the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

I am a big fan of audio books. As I spend a reasonable amount of my time on public transport I find them a great way to enjoy a story or even learn something. But listening to stories is my favourite, and as I’d enjoyed the film so much I thought I’d give this audio book a go. It’s straight from the film rather than being the book from which the film was adapted, so it is very close to what happens in the film, with a little extra here and there. However, it does contain an epilogue. It isn’t huge, but it sort of sets the scene for the next film, or potentially it does anyway.

I enjoyed it. It was fun to listen to and a good way to wait until the DVD comes out and I can watch it again.

Channel 4’s Utopia

Someone mentioned this to me last week, and it was one of those programmes that I’d noticed and thought might be worth watching. So when I found out that the first series was on Netflix I thought I’d try it out.

The first series was excellent, not that I can say that I enjoyed it. It’s compelling viewing though. I watched the entire first season in one go, and now I’ve moved on to the second series, and so far, it’s just as good.

Doctor Who: Harvest of Time

I mainly bought this as it was read by Geoffrey Beevers and I think he has an excellent voice. As it turns out it is in fact a Doctor Who story of truly epic proportions. I should think it would have to be an 8 or 9 part story if it had been done in the old days. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it and I’ll probably be looking out anymore by the same writer and also stories read by Mr Beevers too.

Film: The Edge of Tomorrow

I thought that Tom Cruise’s last film, Oblivion, wasn’t too bad, and I’d enjoyed the trailers for this film so I thought I’d better get along to see it before it left the cinema. Actually, I thought it was very good. It wasn’t pretentious, it lived up to expectations and it left me at the end of the film knowing exactly where we’d got to and not to expect anything else.

I really liked it. I thought it was well constructed, with some nice surprises and a good clear story.

Big Finish: Survivors – Esther

Survivors-Esther

The final episode in this excellent first set or series from Big Finish didn’t fail to deliver at all. A great climax (I won’t tell you what happens), and a great set up for the next set of episodes which I am now patiently waiting for.

Of course, this version has just given me a taste for the other versions again, so I started watching the last BBC version on netflix, and I think I might have to buy the original on DVD.
