I love music. Making music, listening, talking about it and anything else too.
Tascam 424 Mk III
This really is an awesome piece of hardware and something I love especially as it’s 100% tape based. I have to thank my good friend Miki Strange for this as he kindly gifted it to me last year. It’s more than just an awesome gift though. It’s a piece of art in itself, and also a brilliant piece of technology for making art as well. It’s going to be an amazing addition to my music making.
Thanks Miki.

Martyn Ware at the Bowers and Wilkins Society of Sound stage at WOMAD
This was a great talk from Mr Ware from Heaven 17. I really enjoyed it, he had some great insights into the development of synths since the 1970s. Of course it wasn’t for everyone, but I thought it was awesome, especially as synth 20 was an OP-1!
Real World 25
I felt compelled to get this nice little box set at WOMAD this year. I’ve got quite a lot of the tracks already, but it’s really well put together and it came with a load of bits and pieces like postcards and stuff, most of which have actually survived the weekend and trip home.
I think it goes on general release soon if not already and I’d recommend it to anyone who has been to WOMAD in the past, or who plans to go in the future.

Matt Johnson (The The) on Soul Mining at 30
Well, to be honest, it is Soul Mining at 31, but who’s counting right?
Last night I went along to Rough Trade East to listen to Matt Johnson from The The talk about Soul Mining, The The and what he’s been doing. I went with a certain sense of trepidation as I always worry that I’ll listen to someone who’s music I’ve enjoyed for many years and then I’ll listen to their opinions about other stuff and I won’t be able to listen to their music anymore.
Not so with Mr Johnson. No, we was excellent. Funny, insightful and full of interesting stories about the album and the music. I really enjoyed listening to him talk about each song as well, it gave interesting background, without breaking the spell of what has long been one of my all time favourite albums.
Of course, the evening was even better as I walked away with the 30th (31st to be precise) anniversary box set of Soul Mining, and it is a thing of beauty I have to say.
So now it deserves a proper listen. Well that won’t be a chore will it.
