PocketStar

Another thing that I’ve backed somewhat impulsively on Kickstarter. I had originally been looking at their previous product, the Pocuter, and I am still very tempted by that. However, I am more than aware that I can get overly excited by curious technology that I think I have a use for. Sadly, it often means that I end up with stuff that I actually have no use for at all. Hence why I said that I had impulsively backed it.

It’s due to arrive in the spring of next year. When it does I’ll post about it again.

Avant Garde Composers Top Trumps

Now that Christmas is done for another year I thought I would share one of the more interesting things I received. I believe that these came from a seller on Etsy, and I can thoroughly recommend them. They are a lot of fun. I have only played once and that was with my two teenage nephews who very graciously agreed to play a game with me using these.

The cards themselves are quite lovely. Nicely made and with listening recommendations for each composer. Not all of the recommendations I agreed with however.

If you’re interested in getting these, you can find them on Etsy here.

I quite enjoyed this game

Lifeline for iOS

I really enjoyed this game. Not as much as Monument Valley, but it was fun to play. I especially liked the fact that you played it through the lock screen and via notifications, which came through on my Pebble Time, which was fun.

I’m not a big gamer, as I’ve mentioned before, but this kind of text based adventure game was fun, a bit old school, which is perhaps why I like it.

I’m not a gamer, that’s for sure

I just often don’t really get games. I can play for a while then I just get bored. I don’t think it’s the fault of the games of their designers, I just think that I don’t get gaming anymore. I used to (a very long time ago) like some games. Titles like Doom, Myst, Riven. I enjoyed those games, but in recent times I’ve found very few games that have taken my fancy.

However, that seems to be changing a little. Mostly I tried out music based mobile games, and some of these I got on well with, but not always. Now I’m starting to find a few apps / games that I am getting on with, so I’ll be posting my thoughts on these soon. I thought that someone might find that useful, or at least interesting.

App revisit: Beat it!

I remember this game when it first arrived, it was a great idea, and it still is, but I always found it just a bit too hard, which made it a bit off putting really. Which was a shame as visually it was amazing to play.

Those click wheel games …

I’m going to try out playing some of these to see what they’re like again. I know there were a few more than this and that now they’re all gone, which is a shame really.

The one I’m really interested in is Song Summoner, which I never got to grips with when it first came out.

Older Music Apps / Games for iPods

I’m still quite surprised that Apple still sell the iPod Classic. I’m sure that there’s still a market for them, but, like many people I thought that Apple would discontinue them. Apple did dabble for a little while with a form of ‘apps’ for the iPod, although these were just games really and there were never a huge number of them either.

Of the ones there were a handful were music games, and I think I bought most of these whilst they were available. So I decided to go back and play some of these to see if they were any good, as I never really got into gaming. So expect a few pictures and write ups of music based games from a few years ago.

Isle of Tune is wonderful

Of all the music games I’ve played, and I’ve tried to play as many as possible, I think that Isle of Tune is the most successful. But why? What makes it so good? I think the ability to be able to make simple tunes in such a playful way goes a long way toward making this one of the best apps that crosses over from game play to music creation.

I’m really pleased that it’s come to the iPhone too.
