Make Hack Do at the Science Museum

This is where I was on the last Saturday of this show at the Science Museum. It was good. Smaller than I expected, but a reasonable amount of stuff to see. Of course there were the usual things like 3D printing and that, but good to see some soft circuit stuff, and more experimental things too. I like that the science museum try this stuff out.

Some pictures from SoundLab

This was our first SoundLab workshop. We don’t have our new website up and running as yet, but it will be in a week or so hopefully. When it is it’ll explain all about SoundLab and what it is trying to achieve. For now, here are some great pictures of a little bit of experimentation.

Getting Patchblocks

I’d almost forgotten that I’d funded these on kickstarter, so when they arrived it was a lovely surprise! I’ve barely had a chance to get to grips with these as yet, but having opened up the software and loaded a sample patch they look like great fun.

Fennesz – Bécs

EMEGO165

I have been looking forward to this for a while. A new Fennesz album is something to be enjoyed slowly. I’ve barely listened to it once so far and already I can say that it has great range. There’s some deeply moving material in there and I’ve enjoyed the album. Perhaps not as much as Black Sea, which is a personal favourite, but it’s early so far and I need to let this album settle and get used to it.

One thing that it reminds me, is that listening takes time, requires depth, concentration and perseverance. It doesn’t come quickly, but the wait, the effort, is always worth it. Especially with Fennesz.

littleBits going to the cloud

This is a really exciting development in the littleBits world and will hopefully open up loads of possibilities. It’s just a shame that it won’t be available until Q3 this year. I just hope it lives up to my expectations.

Getting some more littleBits time

I finally got some time today to do some more stuff with my littleBits kit. Using the new stuff to get some different outcomes with my kit. It’s so much fun to make stuff with the kit. So many interesting sounds that you can get out of it. Of course I could buy more bits and expand my kit almost for ever. I don’t think it would be too healthy if I did that from a financial point of view though.

So instead I’m starting to try out connecting the kit to other stuff. I already tried this with the molecule synth, which I will try again as it goes, but one of the new bits I got was the mic bit which also has a line input which should allow for some more creative connections.

As always, there’ll be videos …
