A Shada unabridged

Well, I finally started to listen to this 10 CD story yesterday. The whole thing runs to just over 11 hours, but then it is an unabridged version. Also, it’s narrated and not a full cast drama, which I would have preferred, but never mind.

So far the story is pretty recognisable against the big finish / Paul McGann version, so that’s fine, although there are a few differences. Anyway, I’m enjoying hearing the story again, and that’s why I bought it after all.

Doctor Who: Wrath of the Iceni

I’ve been listening to the latest 4th Doctor story from Big Finish. Not bad on the whole, not the best, and I don’t think it’s as good as some of the Hornet’s Nest stories. Even so, it’s always good to listen to some Doctor Who, especially with Tom Baker in it, so it doesn’t matter too much.

Happy birthday Mary Tamm

My favourite Romana. I think it’s probably time to watch The Key to Time again. Anyway, many happy returns to one of the best Doctor Who companions in my humble opinion.

New Who!

Excellent, the latest 4th Doctor story has arrived! Can’t wait to give it a listen, but I might have to wait until the weekend.

A new Shada!

A friend told me about this today and I was really pleased he did. I had no idea that this had been released at all, and I’d really like to get hold of it. I’ve got the Paul McGann version of Shada which I love and it’s an excellent story, but an unabridged version is very tempting indeed.

It’s available on iTunes for £18.95:
Shada: Doctor Who: The Lost Adventure (Unabridged) - Douglas Adams, Gareth Roberts

But also on Amazon (although they’re out of stock!)

So I’m going to have to choose where / how to get hold of a copy of this.

Happy birthday Douglas

I was watching the new series of Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency last night and remembered that today would have been Douglas Adams’ birthday. He would have been 60 today.

I loved Hitchhiker’s and have only recently got into Dirk Gently, but the work I most loved was what he did in Doctor Who. I leant the Big Finish version of Shada with Paul McGann as the 8th Doctor to a friend at work the other day. He really enjoyed it and commented on just how much humour there was in it. What else would you expect from such a talented writer.

He will continue to be missed, but his excellent work lives on.

8th Doctor: The Next Life

I haven’t mentioned an 8th doctor story for a while now and to be honest I haven’t had much time for listening lately, but I did manage to finish listening to this story. It was another 3 CD story so it did take a while to complete.

Not a bad one, a bit over complex in places, but nice use of Paul Darrow who can always manage a menacing voice.

Of course this story is a part of this enormous story arc and to be honest I am getting a little tired of it, especially as I think there’s another 8 CDs to go and some are doubles as well. So I’m hoping that it picks up in the next few stories. In fact the next one is a Dalek story so hopefully it’ll get moving with them in it. I’ll let you know.

New Who!
