November is getting colder

The year is getting old and tired and in some ways I feel like that too like there’s just this stretch to get through to the end of the year and the Christmas break and new year.

It’s getting colder and my umbrella has seen action again. To the extent that it’s partly broken as well.

It’s winter and I don’t want it to be. Nothing I can do but look forward to holidays and a rest. I guess it isn’t too far but it does feel like a long wait at the moment.

V for Vendetta

It is a little tradition of mine to watch this film every 5th of November. It is an excellent film and every time I see it again I remember just how excellent it is.

The Sound of Saturday mornings

Living quite near to a Church means the wonderful sound of the organist practicing on a Saturday morning. Waking up to the sound reminds me of Under Milk Wood and makes me want to listen to it again as I don’t think I’ve heard it this year and that’s an oversight in my book.

Organ practice, bird song and the occasional car going by. The aural landscape of Saturday morning is a very good start to the weekend.

The Shape of Things

Is the new album by John Foxx and the Maths. I got it today. It is awesome. So what did you expect? Apart from anything the whole package is a thing of beauty. It is in fact a book containing two CDs. One is the main album and the other is a CD of remixes.

I’ll take a few pictures in the morning and you can see just how good it is.

Bring on the fireworks

Only a day or two to go until Guy Fawkes, and, as I say every year, it is Guy Fawkes night and NOT fireworks night. Let’s get that straight.

I’ll be going through my normal routine on the 5th, and I’ll tell you about that later.

And that’s why I’m still annoyed with Brian Whitman

Because he said he would make capers open source and he didn’t. I emailed him for ages and he never got back to me, so I’m annoyed. I’m still annoyed.

If you didn’t know capers was going to be a replacement operating system for Palm devices. An operating system for music and only for music. How awesome would that be?

But even back when it was being developed it never really saw the light of day, and then many years later he said he’d make it open source. But still we wait …

More Who on the way

I’m waiting for Serpent Crest 3 to arrive on iTunes in the next few days. As I was looking around for it I did notice that there appear to be some new 8th Doctor stories appearing too, which is great. Add to that the fact that Big Finish are getting 4th Doctor stories out as well and you have a veritable Who-fest available!

Lots to look forward to before the year’s out.

Processing again

It really is time that I got back to actual making of things, be they physical or digital. Going back to processing has a nice feel to it. I like to make stuff, and processing is easy, or at least a lot easier than other languages I’ve tried.

I’ve got a few new ideas I want to try out and a lot of old sketches that never got finished or that don’t work anymore for one reason or another. I also want to dabble with processing for Android and see what I can do with that. I did get a few small sketches running on my underpowered Android phone, but I want to see if I can do anything musical with it.

I’ll post them again when I’ve got something done.

A few pictures from my last visit to the V&A in September.
