Milkytracker is on Android now!

Who knew? Not me that’s for sure anyway! And, what’s more, it appears to be compatible with my old Orange San Francisco. Excellent. I shall download that and then maybe not really use it for a while then dramatically rediscover it in a few months.

Sounds like a plan doesn’t it?

Fun with Mixtikl

One of the applications I’ve always wanted to spend more time with is Mixtikl. It is such a deep and complex application for iOS or Mac, or any other platform for that matter. I spent almost two hours with Mixtikl today, and enjoyed it so much. Even so I know that I’m still just scratching the surface of what this application is capable of.

I love the generative possibilities and the ability to set rules within each cell. It really does stretch the limits of what you can do with mobile music.

The other thing I love is the ability to be able to tweet a mix and share it instantly.

I’m looking forward to even more time with Mixtikl and going deeper and deeper with what it can do.

Inception (the app this time)

I’ve been using this off and on over the last few days and I think I’m actually enjoying it more than I did when it first came out. I’d deleted it off my iPhone so I’d lost all the ‘dreams’ that I’d unlocked, but that doesn’t really matter.

I really love the whole augmented audio concept, and couple with the fact that I really love Inception the movie, the app is a natural fit.

Haven’t got on so well with their Dimensions app so far though. Perhaps I should give it another try.

Sunvox arrives for Android, but not for me

It is of course great news to hear that the excellent Sunvox app has arrived for Android. Sunvox was always described as a cross platform modular tracker and it is truly cross platform now.

Sadly it won’t run on my under-powered old Android phone which is only running 2.2, as Sunvox requires 2.3, and even if I could get 2.3 on my device I doubt it would work very well as the CPU is quite slow. Still, I’m glad to see it and I’d happily pay for it as and when I upgrade.

Well done Alex!

Thinking about Spotify

I’m considering getting a Spotify subscription. I was somewhat taken with the spotify apps (SPAPPS) that I saw at Music Hack Day London last month and it got me wondering about giving Spotify another try out. So I’m almost there in terms of making up my mind about it. The only nagging doubt is that the last time I tried Spotify I actually couldn’t find too much music that I liked on it, which is a major drawback for a music service.

Perhaps it’s changed now, as it was a while back since I used it.

AxisPad on the 3G

Well I took the plunge and bought StyleTap for my 3G. I think it works pretty well so far, although I think I’d rather have StyleTap for Android at the moment, but never mind.

Getting AxisPad running on it was great. AxisPad was one of the last Palm OS music apps to appear, and I still really like it. I think I have all the miniMusic apps running on the 3G now, which is good. I still couldn’t get Bhajis on there, but perhaps I’ll have more luck next time I try.

Music apps I haven’t used in ages: Future Sound

This was an app I got right back at the start of iOS music making. In fact, before it was iOS actually. It was one of the more innovative apps that came out, and more like art than a music making experience. It’s interesting to go back to it now as in many ways some of these ideas have been taken on by the likes of RJDJ in the work they’ve done with their Inception app and also with scenes in general.

I looked up their website and they’re still going, although it seems as though the iOS or mobile world isn’t the entirety of what they’re about, which is good. Interesting to see what they do next, although they don’t seem to have a blog or news feed sadly.

Messing about with Oramics

Having seen the Oramics exhibition again I thought I’d spend some time with the Oramics app again as I haven’t used it in ages. I think that the first time I used it I didn’t really get the hang of it, but playing with it this morning I really enjoyed it. I think I might record some pieces from it too.

StyleTap successes and failures

8 days left of my trial period on StyleTap. Some things are working well, some not. I’ve had troubles getting some files into StyleTap has been problematic, or impossible in some cases. There appears to be some kind of maximum file size for getting files in which I haven’t worked out a way around as yet, and I’ve only got 7 days left to do it.

Also I’m still having problems with user names, as it seems that this is kind of important in getting some older apps to work. Still, more apps to load and more things to try out.

One useful bit of information I found was a list of apps which specifically work with StyleTap.
