I love films although I never seem to get to see all the films I’d like to.

True Grit

I’d been waiting to see the remake of True Grit for a long time, and last night I finally got round to it. Sadly it was a big disappointment. Or that is to say that it was a big disappointment for me. I didn’t like the changes to the story and the way the ending was changed.

Overall it seemed to be a darker story than the original, with less hope in it, and I think that’s a mistake. Still, it’s just my opinion, and most of all it made me want to see the original again, which I really should own.

Galaxy Quest

Some days you need to watch a great old film on a Sunday just to get cheered up over going back to work after the weekend. Tonight’s timeless classic is the ever amazing “Galaxy Quest”.

What a lovely little film. Funny but not in a cruel way. A wonderful film, great performances, a lovely story. I love it. Does it show?

Inception: The Soundtrack

I am somewhat obsessed at the moment by Inception. The film, the app, and now I’ve bought the soundtrack too, which is a very good one by Hans Zimmer. But in some ways it just isn’t as good as using the Inception app, which is a much more immersive experience.

Increasingly I find that I prefer reactive and generative music to linear music or recorded music. I think also that it’ll be a prompt for finally getting into doing some RJDJ scene work and Pd building.

Logan’s Run

I haven’t seen this for ages and noticed it was on Film 4. Even though it’s a very old film now it’s still a good story, and the concept’s been used many many times in newer films. I may have to buy this film now.

2010

I hadn’t watched this film for a long time, and it’s still great But you couldn’t make a film like that now. It is just too slow, too leisurely in the telling of the story. Personally I like that, but it doesn’t seem to work too often now.

I did read 2061 and 3001 although I thought that they weren’t as good as Clarke’s first two stories.

Inception

I watched Inception again. What an excellent film. I’d forgotten quite a few parts of the film and I couldn’t remember just how tense it got. It made me want to try out the Inception app again.

The Green Hornet

I watched the Green Hornet tonight. I’d heard it was rubbish, but actually I thought it wasn’t too bad on the whole. A bit cheesy and silly, but fun and overall quite watchable. Perhaps it was just that my expectations were set very low?

Anyway, I had fun.

Tron Legacy

I’ve watched the film a couple of times and it’s ok. But the soundtrack really is quite excellent and listening to it on and off for the last week or so I’ve got really quite into it. So much so that I think I might have to see the film again.

Forbidden Planet

I’d forgotten just how much I enjoy the forbidden planet soundtrack. It was so far ahead of it’s time. I think that everyone should watch the film and listen to the music. Not that it would engage everyone I know. Still, I love it.

The Fantastic Mr Fox

I love this film, it is so beautiful and so charming, but then I like most of Wez Anderson’s films on the whole. Some more than others, and I probably like this one 3rd or 4th. Something like that anyway.
