A few pictures from the talk I gave about SoundLab at Abbey Road Studios the other week.

Considering going to WOMAD this year

I think I’ve been going for about 10 years now, so in some ways it would be a shame not to go, but the line up isn’t inspiring me this year, which is a shame. I’m thinking about it, but not convinced as yet. I may just go for the day. I’ve done that a few times before and it’s ok. Not the same as being there for the weekend, but if the weather forecast is bad then it’s a viable alternative to a damp weekend.
I’ll keep thinking about it for now.
What started me thinking about it was listening to this box set from last year, which has got some excellent tracks on it.
Can’t believe that 2012 was the last time I went to GBBF!
And soon it’ll be time for Rail Ale again!
Cassette Store Day will return 17 October
Great that Cassette Store day is coming back again this year. I hope it’ll be better supported than before. I’ll be celebrating it of course. Why wouldn’t I?
Nearer the time I’ll try and post details of events and the like, and hopefully I’ll get along to some too.
So that’s what’s cricket’s all about then
I went to the T20 at the Oval the other night. It wasn’t what I expected at all. The whole atmosphere was very good natured. A squirrel ran onto the pitch and I’m sure that he got a much bigger cheer than the players. The other somewhat surprising thing was the beer snake, which you can see in the photo above. I’ve never seen that before. The beer snake also got some pretty big cheers.
Going to Denovali Festival
When I heard the Fennesz was playing I thought that I had to go along to see him again. It’s been a few years and I love his music. Getting to see everything else on the line up was a bonus really. Here’s the running order:
- Moon Zero
- Greg Haines
- Fennesz
- Jon Hassel + Ensemble
It was a nice venue on the whole, with the possible exception of people who appeared to think it was ok to just talk all the way through each performance. I just don’t get that at all. Anyway …
I’d never heard Moon Zero before. I thought he was ok. Nice big wall of sound kind of thing. I’ll probably look his stuff up on Spotify and see if I like the recorded versions.
Greg Haines was really good. Again I’d never heard his stuff, but I really did enjoy it and I’m now looking forward to hearing more of his music on Spotify.
Fennesz was great. Played a lot of pieces I love and of course was the main reason for me going in the first place.
I was also looking forward to hearing Jon Hassel but could only stay for a short part of his set sadly. Overall it was a good evening with some new things to listen to soon as well.
And as Star Wars day ends …
Happy Star Wars Day!
So here we are again. May the 4th. It’s a special Star Wars day as we look forward to ‘The Force Awakens’ later this year, and very special for me as I’m looking forward to going to Secret Cinema which is ‘Star Wars’ this year and I think it will be awesome.
