Slightly stalled

My current musical project has had a bit of a stall this week. It isn’t that I’ve lost interest in doing it, rather everything else has taken priority over time this week and so nothing creative has had time to squeeze out.

I’m hoping that I might be able to put that right today or tomorrow. We’ll have to see later, but ideally I’d like to get this project finished this month. It think it is possible, but that doesn’t mean it is likely sadly.

When the process is more creative than the music

I’m continuing to work on my new collection of tracks currently called ‘back and forth’. In working on it I suddenly realised that in some ways I was more interested in the creative process of making the pieces than I was with the final finished product itself.

I guess that in many ways the process itself is a journey of discovering something unique from the recorded media itself. This is even more true with field recordings and ‘back and forth’ is sort of field recording based.

Anyway, I’m enjoying the process and the end result is going to be mobile generated as you’d expect.

Working on ‘Back and Forth’

I managed to get some more work done on my next musical project today. I wasn’t expecting to get much done, but I got a little work completed which felt good. The first phase of the project was quite straightforward, but the next phase is a lot less certain. It is a lot more experimental and I don’t have any fixed idea of what I want to achieve or how I want to achieve it.

I guess the fun is in the discovery or the journey rather. I’ll see how it shapes next week.

Next project is shaping up

I’ve started working on my next musical project which is called ‘Back and Forth‘. It’s a lot different to my last little project, ‘Micro Process‘. Instead it is based on a series of field recordings made using RJDJ and then processed with some other applications.

I hope to have it done by the end of the month, but you know about plans right?

Anyway, I’m looking forward to getting some more work done on it and experimenting, because that’s the best part!

Messing around with Processing

I’ve been messing around with Processing JS for a few days as it seems to be easier to put .js sketches into a web site than standard Processing sketches, and it is. But, whilst it makes a lot of sense to use processing.js with WordPress, sadly processing.js isn’t so good at audio, and a lot of my processing stuff is audio related.

So I’m going back to straight Processing for now as I know I can get the audio librarys to work with that.

Never mind

Old tech

This is what I’ve been using to retrieve my old songs from often crumbling cassettes. Sadly it too is somewhat past it’s best and I’m not sure how much longer it will last.

I’m considering getting an old cassette 8 track. Probably not immediately, but in a while I think.

Some more about old multitracks
