This is an updated version of an older track I made. I posted details of how it was made over on Palm Sounds too. I’m actually quite proud of it. The process was a little haphazard, but enjoyable nonetheless.

I listened to this again today, a great story, a really good jaunt back to the original series. I think I’m going to have to give in and start buying the latest series.
Dear Big Finish, stop being awesome, it’s costing me a fortune
Having just watched Survivors (the last BBC version) for the third time (I think), I hear today that Big Finish are releasing a version of the classic TV series as an audio book. Their series 1 will be 240 minutes long and features, amongst others, Louise Jameson.
I don’t begrudge big finish, it’s just that they seem intent on releasing excellent content that I want to buy, resulting in me having to spend loads of money with them. On the one hand I don’t want them to stop, and on the other, actually I don’t want them to stop at all. I’d rather they just kept it up as it goes.
Doctor Who: The Light at the End – The Revenants
The Revenants was a bonus story on the end of the Big Finish 50th anniversary story “The Light at the End”. I’d meant to listen to it ages ago and just hadn’t got to it, so today I put that right. It’s a companion chronicles story from the 1st Doctor and it’s very nicely put together and is completely in keeping with the 1st Doctor’s stories and style. I liked that. It has a sense of continuity about it.
I actually quite enjoyed it, although I don’t think I’ll be rushing out to get other 1st Doctor companion stories any time soon. Even so, I can see the attraction. It was a good listen. But then, what else would you expect from Big Finish?
What I think that iOS automation needs right now
I was thinking about this today whilst reviewing some links on general automation stuff. One of the best tools for automating stuff on iOS is Editorial. I love its workflow generator. It’s great but it doesn’t go far enough. What’s needed is a simple editor for creating iOS workflows that span multiple apps and even incorporate web services like ifttt. Perhaps that’s too far. For a start anyway.
But something that could just help you use the available building blocks and get things moving would be amazing. Rather than having to use loads of URL encoding and stuff like that. It’s a thought. I would certainly buy it anyway.
Disappointed at the Reporter App
I bought this app as I liked the idea of it recording information during the day and acting as a form of journal. However, after a few days or maybe even a week of using it I found that it was asking me lots of questions but not giving me much back in return. It’s a shame really. I was hoping it would give me much more and maybe show me what I did with my time etc.
Perhaps I missed the point of it, and maybe I should give it another go, but I’m not sure it’ll happen soon.
What I’ve been listening to in February
February was an interesting month for musical discovery. I ‘found’ some really good stuff, so I thought I’d post a round up of what I enjoyed in February. I might even keep doing it every month. Who knows.
Morning Phase by Beck: I really enjoyed this album. I only recently decided to listen to some Beck again and just listened to a bunch of albums culminating in this one which was excellect.
Sea Change by Beck: I listened to this before Morning Phase, and now that I think back I’m not sure which I prefer. Perhaps I’ll need to listen to them side by side.
The Eurythmics, Boxed: Whilst I haven’t actually finished listening to this as yet I do like a good boxed set to listen to and this one reminded me of a lot of their great tracks that I’d forgotten.
The Civil Wars: Not something I would normally listen to, but I quite enjoyed listening to an album or two of their material. I don’t think I’d go back to it in a hurry, but it was nice.
Stereolab: I’ve listened to a lot of them in Feb. Not entirely sure why, and they’re one of those acts that I enjoy but then can’t really remember what it is I’ve been listening to afterwards. Perhaps that’s ok.
Those are the highlights that spring to mind at the moment, and that probably means they’re the things I enjoyed the most. Maybe.

I really enjoyed this. As I listened to it I had no idea where it was going or what was going to happen, and I really like that in a story. I did guess the end of the story about 30 minutes before the end. Even so, it was an awesome story over almost 4 hours. Evey minute worthwhile.
I think it’s been left open for a Dark Eyes 3. Perhaps we’ll need to wait another couple of years for that though.
iPhone 5 external battery experiment: Day 4
Day 4 followed the same pattern. I let the iPhone drain down to 30% charge and then charged it with the external battery. Once again the battery did very well, but after getting my phone back up to 100% charge it gave up itself. So, 4 days and 4 charges. Not bad going I’d say. The battery was certainly worth the money.
However, the power loss on my iPhone is terrible now, so it’ll probably need replacing anyway. Even so I think that the battery will come in handy in the future.
So, experiment over for now.
iPhone 5 external battery experiment: Day 3
So, day three and the external battery is still going strong. It did flicker around between three and four bars or circles on its display, and after a little while it went back up to 4 bars. I guess this sort of thing isn’t too precise. Anyway, it charged the iPhone 5 again. I let the iPhone get down to 30% again and charged it back up to 100%.
So let’s see what day 4 brings.
