‘landings’ by Richard Skelton
I bought this album a month or so ago and quite liked it. The the other day I read a long interview with Richard Skelton in the Wire, and that made me want to listen to it again.
The reason I wanted to listen to it once more was that the interview gave me a much better appreciation of how the music was made and why it was made. Both of which were incredibly interesting and thought provoking, and if you’re interested in music and it’s connection to the physical landscape I’d recommend you find out more about Richard Skelton and his work.
But it also made me wonder how much music should stand on it’s own without a complex description and explanation of why and how it was made.
In some ways I think that music should stand alone and make sense without being explained, but also that in some cases it needs and warrants a narrative.
Certainly listening to ‘landings’ makes more sense now that I understand it better
