Well I’ve got going on my next mindstorms project. It’s been a long time since I’ve done anything with this stuff, so I’m not entirely sure how it’ll turn out, but it’s fun to start thinking about how to put stuff together again, and trying to work out just how I’m going to achieve what I want to with this project.

A little development log of sorts
So as you know I’m always tinkering about with Palm OS stuff, and usually talking about it on Palmorama too. However, I thought it might be interesting to start off a little development blog of sorts for my latest creation, Seq1. I’ve started it off here as a page on the site, and I’ll be adding to it over the next few weeks and months.
Doctor Who: Engines of War, the verdict
So I wasn’t really looking forward to this audiobook. I’d bought it to see what it was like, to try it out and also because of the narrator, Nicolas Briggs, who I think is excellent. He really delivered with this book. His voices were excellent. Very convincing and very consistent. I was very impressed with that aspect of the production.
But what about the story? Well, I’m not going to give away any spoilers, so if you were thinking about listening to it you can read on. I liked the story a lot. It didn’t hold back at all. For me it seemed to give the War Doctor a proper identity and developed the character in the way I’d hoped that the writers would. It also firmly left open the possibility of a new set of War Doctor stories, and I hope that this too gets developed. I would certainly give them a listen if they appear.
So, all in all, a very solid audio story. Maybe Big Finish could take this further? I know they’d do an excellent job of it.
If you’re interested in Palm OS stuff …
Then you should visit Palmorama some time. It’s one of the other sites I write and is only about the old Palm OS stuff. You might like it.
Charlie Hisgon’s The Enemy

I’ve been a fan of these books since I started reading the first one. This year the last book in the series is due to be released in September. Book 7 will be the last book in the series. I know that they are really children’s books, but I still really like them and have read them all twice now I think.
I’m really looking forward to book 7 so I’ve decided to re-read all of them in the run up to the release of the last book. I’m going to enjoy doing that too.
Juice Vocal Ensemble
I went to see this group the other week and really enjoyed their musical styles. This was the first time I’d seen the group although I have seen / heard similar styles like this before. It was good, fun and they certainly are very talented indeed.
Pebble SmartStraps
This is so clever. Such a great idea. I’m really impressed with Pebble and what they’re doing with their latest products. I can see this being very popular. I hope that some really interesting strap designs come out soon now that they’ve released the 3D print files for the design.
I can see all sorts of cool uses for this technology.
Kingsman: The Secret Service
Palm OS virtual machines
You probably know by now that I’m a bit obsessed by the old Palm OS and PDAs in general.
One of the best emulators for Palm OS is PHEM. It runs on Android. PHEM works by using Palm OS ROMs. You can load as many ROMs as you want and then from those ROMs create as many sessions or virtual machines as you want.
This is pretty impressive. I’m just getting back to this and will be creating a variety of little machines soon.
Thinking about what to do next with my Romo
I bought the very first iteration of romo, or rather I kickstarted Romo. It was fun, once I got it working, which did take a little while as there were some issues with units in Europe. But it got there. Of course it didn’t support the iPhone 5 so when I moved from a 4 to a 5 it wasn’t workable any longer.
This situation went on until I had the 4 back, relatively recently. Since then I’ve been playing with using it with my TWINE as well. That’s sort of been fun too, but now I’m wondering what, if anything, I can do with it next. I don’t really have any new ideas for it at the moment, and it seems unlikely that Romotive will bring new features to this first iteration of the device.
Also, I never did get to the bottom of what you could do with the little aux ports on the front of the device. I would have liked to know what was possible, and why they put them there.
So for now Romo is gathering dust sadly, until I can come up with a new use. If I do, I’ll let you know.
