Getting the Donut

Now that I’m back to using my iPad for music again I thought I’d have another go at Donut, and suddenly, it really clicked. I used it to record some vocal cut ups and it was wonderful, or that is to say, I really enjoyed it anyway.

I really do love The Strange Agency. They’re amazing!

That was a good day

I found this badge in my coat pocket. It was from the Music 4.5 conference I was at and spoke at. I really enjoyed the event and there was a lot of very interesting information shared there, but I think most of all I enjoyed the people.

So it was good to remember the day when I pulled this out of my pocket and thought about some of the things I might do as a result.

App revisit: Vox 3000

This app from the retronyms is still as much fun to muck about with as the day it was released. What more could you want than to be able to type in a message and get it spoken out?

What’s more, you can use audio copy / paste to take it somewhere else. It doesn’t get much better.

App revisit: iHolophone

Another older Amidio app that was actually very good, and when I started using it again I remembered just how simple it was to play with.

Sadly it is no longer on the app store for some reason, Amidio seem to have withdrawn it alongside a number of other apps that I still have of theirs, which is a shame really.

Thoughts about the iPad 3

So I’ve had my iPad 3 for a few days now, and of course it is lovely and all that. So what’s great about it? Well, for me, the best thing about it is that it isn’t broken. My iPad 2 had a smashed screen which meant it was almost completely unusable for the last 2 and a half months. The iPad 3 is lovely from that perspective.

Aside from that it feels very similar. The screen is better, there’s no doubt about that, and whilst that’s great to have it adds little in terms of functionality for any music app, which is one of my main uses of the device. The camera is better so I’m told, but as I never really used the camera it doesn’t make much difference to me either.

So, whilst I’m glad to have a functioning iPad again I can’t say that the 3rd generation unit has overwhelmed me really. I think there was more that Apple could have done to make this an innovative device, but perhaps they’re saving that for another time.

You just have to love PalmSprak

I love the fact that someone made a Palm Sounds version of their app to celebrate when Palm Sounds was 5 years old. I really love the original Sprak app and this one is just as good, and reminds me that Palm Sounds was a really good thing and helped to create a lot of buzz around mobile music.
