Peladon Tales

In my ongoing plan to slowly acquire all of the 3rd Doctor DVDs, these are the two I bought next. Anyone who knows the third doctor will realise that I’m not doing this in any kind of order at all. At least, not so far. It has been a bit random, but I’ll probably start collecting in order quite soon.

However, these two stories came as a boxed set, so there was little choice in that.

The Curse of Peladon
The Curse of Peladon

The Curse of Peladon is the earlier story, and the first time that the 3rd Doctor visits Peladon. It’s a good story by any standards. Of course the production values are early 70s TV and that probably doesn’t stand the test of time. However, I really enjoyed it, especially because one of the main characters is played by the son of the second Doctor.

The second story was right at the end of Mr Pertwee’s time as the Doctor. It is another good one, in my view, and again, I enjoyed it a lot.

At some point I’m going to go through all of the 3rd Doctor stories in order, when I’ve got them of course, and that will be truly epic.

Doctor Who, The Time Warrior, Sarah-Jane Smith’s first adventure

This is a great story. Sarah-Jane’s first outing with the Doctor, and a great one to start off with too. Sontarans are always good fun right!

I hadn’t seen this in ages, but it really has stood the test of time, and, as ever, Pertwee is brilliant.

Short Trips, The Black Dog

I was skeptical about this audiobook as I thought it would just be too short get a real story going. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Even though it was short, only 35 minutes long, it was great. A good, self contained Doctor Who story. Well narrated by Louise Jameson too.

So I might need to look into a few more of these short trips stories now.

I’ve been meaning to sample a few of the Big Finish ‘short trips’ stories, but haven’t got around to it as yet. So when this one came out yesterday I decided that it was an idea time to start. It’s only just over 30 minutes long so I’m not expecting a detailed story, but it could be fun.

These are the old Nicholas Courtney episodes which I thought I’d like to. He had an excellent voice and always carried a show. It is strange to hear him when you know he’s gone, but it’s good to remember what an awesome actor he was and what a great character The Brigadier was too.

One week to go before the War Doctor arrives

Yeah, I know. I’m excited about this, but I did think that the War Doctor (especially played by John Hurt) was such a great idea so I am really looking forward to it. With a week to go I’m wondering if I should read or listen to Engines of War, the BBC Audio story for the War Doctor. I probably don’t have time to get that done, but I’d like to.

Anyway, if you didn’t know, The War Doctor box set comes out on the 14th.

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of Big Finish. So on Monday (Cyber Monday), their deals were for Cyberman Monday! As opposed to their deals for Black Friday, which were entitled “Black Dalek Friday”. Cheesy or cool? You decide.
