someone who's doing some things
Everything is about apps at the moment. A lot of what I mention under the apps tag is around iOS and mobile music, but there’s other stuff too, and not just iOS, but Android, Palm OS and Windows mobile.
Well it isn’t all plain sailing with iDroid of course, I’ve had quite a few problems getting things to load in it, although some things are just fine.
The one app I really wanted to get running on iDroid was Tasker, which is one of the most excellent Android apps ever in my book. However, I just get this:
Which is of course no fun at all. I may do some research on this, but my guess is that this isn’t going to be readily fixable.
I do like iShred LIVE! And the other day I got it working with GuitarJack 2. I like iShred LIVE! because some of the effects in it are quite unusual and aren’t what you find in other effects simulations.
The upshot is I’ve ended up buying loads of in-app purchase units on apps all over the place. I’m sure it’ll be worth it though.
To say that Mixtikl is a music app with a great deal of depth would be a massive understatement. Most recently I’ve been getting into the sound design capabilities of Mixtikl. You’d think that this might be difficult on an iPhone. But it isn’t. In fact, once you’ve got the hang of it, the sound design screens are actually quite easy to work with.
What you can achieve with Mixtikl is actually amazing, and the more I do with it, the more I realise that it can do.
Oramics is still one of those music apps that I find myself returning to regularly. Just for the making of strange noises and thinking about the pioneering days of electronic music.
The Retronyms pulled out an amazing app when they introduced Tabletop last year. It isn’t like any other modular environment on the iPad, but so far I haven’t had much, if any, chance to do anything with the newer modules.
So my plan is to get that sorted out very soon.
The more I get into Jasuto, the more ideas I have for using it. That’s not to say that it is perfect of course, there are always areas that could be improved, but you can say that with any software.
Jasuto is perfectly useful as it is, but it would be great to see it updated sometime soon.
Buddha Machine has added a few nice features which prompted me to try it out again. It’s a strange music making app, but I do find myself warming to it though. It’s also interesting to work with the app against the actual hardware version.
Since I stopped writing Palm Sounds I’ve had a lot more time to spend on actually making music, and making the kind of music I’m interested in making rather than just testing music apps.
I was playing with MoDrum the other day and remembered just how much I enjoyed this drum machine and how versatile it is.
I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now although I’d wanted to use my iPad 2, but it seems now that it won’t be usable as an input device for some reason. Anyway, I used the GuitarJack in my iPhone 4 and it works very well. Using it with GuitarTone is good too, which I wasn’t expecting as what I wanted to achieve was a non-guitar like sound. I got close enough.
Another great music app for creating stuff on the go. I’ve been a Chordbot user for a long time and love the versatility of the app. It’s great for making sequences to work on afterwards using MIDI.
