Where else can you find a life sized Dalek that follows you around the room?

Things are going on all the time!, This category is about things I’ve been to or sometimes would have liked to have been to. Also, it’s about events I’m a part of or have had some hand in running.
Annual trip to the environmental fair
I go to this every year, or at least I do my best to, and it never fails to please on so many levels. Firstly there’s the music, which is probably my main reason for going. There’s three stages, a main stage, a cafe stage and a performing arts marquee. The main stage is ok, I did see one thing that I liked on it this year, which was a band using repurposed tech like guitar hero controllers to make some fairly enjoyable lofi music.
The music cafe had mainly a mix of folk and blue which was really nice, and great to see a hurdy-gurdy on stage in one of the bands. In fact there were quite a lot of acts on here that I enjoyed listening to. Nothing that I’d probably go out of my way to seek out, but very pleasant listening nonetheless.
Lastly there was the performing arts stage. There were a few things on this that I really liked and a couple that I intend to seek out when I have some time.
So, overall in terms of music it was a really useful, enjoyable, and left me with one or two things to follow up on. But that wasn’t the end of the day.
But I’ll save that for another post.
A couple of little bits from the Mini Maker Faire last month
A day at WOMAD
Purley Festival, day 1
A few pictures from Crystal Palace Beer Festival
I’d never been to this festival before, but it was very good indeed. Well run, good beer, good music, and I think I’ll be going again next year.
Rail Ale trip on the Bluebell railway
I’ve only been on Rail Ale once before, and that was before the Bluebell line extended to East Grinstead. Now that it comes all the way up to the mainline service it’s really easy to get to, and of course it’s a much longer line and therefore a lot more fun to be on.
The ale was very good (see menu above) and as it was a fine evening, as opposed to pouring rain the last time I went, it was a great night out. I’d thoroughly recommend it to anyone who enjoys steam trains and real ale.
May the 4th be with you
Well, it’s May the 4th and of course you have to celebrate, and it looks like lots of people have. Certainly from a quick look at Instragram plenty of people have had some fun today.
Anyway, for the first time ever I watched the three original movies back to back. It was great. Like them or not they are a phenomenon in their own right. It also made me realise just how much better the first three are over the later movies, and it makes me hope that the new film(s) will be of a high standard.
Record Store Day
A few shots from last Saturday
As I’ve been sick all week I thought I’d post some shots from last Saturday of the MS Stubnitz at night, as I was leaving it.
