4th Doctor: The Renaissance Man

Today’s Doctor Who story was the second episode from the first series. A story called the renaissance man. I remember this, well, a bit anyway, but not in any detail, so it was wonderful to listen to it again today. It’s a completely awesome story. With a superb cast and what is in fact a very complex and deep plot.

It was like hearing the story for the first time. So tomorrow I’m on to the next story in season 1.

Destination Nerva

I first listened to this story in January 2012. It is the first story that Tom Baker did for Big Finish productions, so it’s kind of a milestone, and not only that, it’s actually a lovely story too. It picks up directly after The Talons of Weng Chiang, which is arguably one of the best Doctor Who stories ever, so an excellent place to start in my opinion.

The story is set on the Nerva dock, which is of course the same as the Nerva Beacon, a location that crops up many times in Doctor Who. The cast is excellent, the action and the story are a joy. It’s a great way to have started his audio stories on Big Finish, and it’s lovely to listen to them again whilst I wait for the season 3 episodes to arrive every month. I think I may have to run through the whole season now that I’ve started.

Blake’s 7: Liberator Chronicles 2 – False Positive

False Positive cover

The Liberator Chronicles are good stories, and I’ve been enjoying listening to these again, but if there’s one thing I don’t like about them, it’s that these stories aren’t full cast dramas. I suppose that this is simply because I’ve recently listened to the latest Blake’s 7 story ‘Fractures’, which was a full cast drama and which is really good.

Anyway, the chronicles are very good, and I should probably get the rest of them at some point.

8th Doctor: Dark Eyes – The Great War

Dark Eyes The Great War cover

As I’ve just watched the entire 5 seasons of Primeval (more about that another time) it was interesting to notice that the voice of Molly in this 8th Doctor story was Ruth Bradley, who was in the last few episodes of Primeval. This first part of dark eyes is a great set up for the story, and even though I’ve heard it once before I’m really enjoying it. Paul McGann is such an unsung hero of the Doctor Who world. I personally think that his audio stories are simply excellent, and dark eyes is up there with the best he’s done.

So I’m looking forward even more to dark eyes 2 which is coming in the not too distant future, and also finishing listening to this story soon as well.
