David Sylvian, A Victim of Stars, and thoughts about curation

I was listening to this compilation on Friday and I really enjoyed it for the most part. Which I found strange. I didn’t find it strange that I liked the individual songs, I knew those and knew that I liked them, but the order that they were in created a different feel to listening to them, and that made me think.

It made me remember the mixtape, that is, when it was an actual tape and not a digital representation of a tape. Curating (if that’s the right word for it) tracks together in a specific order can quite easily change their meaning or at least adapt it for a different purpose.

I found listening to Sylvian’s tracks in the order in this compilation gave them a different meaning in a way for me. Not a totally different meaning you understand, but something subtle. It also made me remember mixtape’s where they were in a different order and what tracks followed which was strange too.

I’m not entirely sure where this leads, but I think it’s interesting in itself, that’s all.

Arduino experiments restart

Finally I got back to my Arduino this weekend. It took a while to get it going again, but finally it is. My real aim is to get Android and Arduino working together and I’d found a site that explains how to do it. However, once I was quite a way through I realised that it required an Arduino Mega ADK and not the older model I had.

So now I’m wondering about getting an ADK model for £60 to continue this project. Perhaps a more sensible thing would be to get some stuff done with what I’ve got first and see where I get to with that before moving on.

Not sure.

8th Doctor: The Next Life

I haven’t mentioned an 8th doctor story for a while now and to be honest I haven’t had much time for listening lately, but I did manage to finish listening to this story. It was another 3 CD story so it did take a while to complete.

Not a bad one, a bit over complex in places, but nice use of Paul Darrow who can always manage a menacing voice.

Of course this story is a part of this enormous story arc and to be honest I am getting a little tired of it, especially as I think there’s another 8 CDs to go and some are doubles as well. So I’m hoping that it picks up in the next few stories. In fact the next one is a Dalek story so hopefully it’ll get moving with them in it. I’ll let you know.

MegaCurtis on the way

I’ve posted about the wonderful iOS tools from the Strange Agency before, so I was really pleased to see that they have another, or possibly an update on the way.

The refer to it as ‘MegaCurtis’, and it looks amazing, very much building on Curtis for the iPhone and the iPad version too. In some ways I’m hoping that it is a new app and not an update as I like the existing one and would almost just like to have a new one to compliment it, but irrespective I’m looking forward to it, for more strangeness and experimentation. Here we go.
