Finding my first cassette recorder

When I was about 11 or maybe 12 I really desperately wanted a tape recorder, and for Christmas I got one. It was a fergusson and it looked like this.

I found it again at a very weird museum a few weeks ago. It took me right back. I used to use it for recording myself and later on it was very handy for use with a ZX81 and then with a ZX Spectrum.

Tasting at the St Austell Brewery

This was a rather lovely time at the St Austell Brewery a couple of months ago. I’ve been here before and done the brewery tour, but back then it was different. You got to see a lot more of the actual brewery and the process and it’s all changed now. It’s a shorter tour, but also in some ways a little better too. There’s a much bigger emphasis on the tasting side at the end, which I am all in favour of.

As you can see from the bottles in the picture above, there was a good range and plenty to go around. It made the tour quite different and, in my opinion, a lot more fun.

I also really liked how they offered thirds of pints in the bar. So you could have a taster tray of 3 beers. Very useful indeed.

Back again

I realise that it’s been a while since I wrote anything here. It’s been a busy time what with one thing and another and it’s meant that I just haven’t had time to do much here. I’m hoping that will change from now on in. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to keep this up a bit more.

There’s a lot to say.

iCloud troubles

I love how Apple always tells you how much all their products and services make life easier. Well not always! Over the last couple of weeks I’ve had terrible trouble with iCloud. To the extent that it’s deleted all of my calendars, forced me to change passwords all over the place too.

Not much fun at all. Not in any way. Thanks so much Apple.

The fourth doctor to get a new companion!

I read that in the news on the big finish site a week or so ago and I’ve been pondering it ever since. When the fourth doctor came back in the form of excellent stories from big finish. Ever since the stories have been with original companions, the much missed Mary Tamm as Romana 1, Leela from the excellent Louise Jameson, and latterly Romana 2 with Lala Ward.

Now there’s to be a new, or rather a completely new companion. I still don’t know how I feel about that. I guess I’ll have to wait and see how it actually sounds in the end.

Colossus Sequencer and Synth, it’s been too long …

Colossus Synth
Colossus Synth
Colossus Sequencer
Colossus Sequencer

I actually got these two working a long time ago, and they do work quite well, if being a bit limited, but they’re fun and that’s fine.

However, I was thinking the other day that I should give it a go with some of the other little modular things I have. The colossus sequencer has a CV out so should work with some of my other bits and pieces.

There’s an experiment or two in there I think.

So NinerPaint is coming to iOS

NinerPaint was a totally amazing app for Palm OS. It was one of the best Palm OS apps around. Now it’s coming to iOS, and, it’s coming back to Palm OS as well. This is brilliant news. As soon as it’s available I’ll let you know.
