Pebble Time and disconnection alerting

Pebble Time disconnection alert
Pebble Time disconnection alert

This is a very useful little Pebble Time app that just gives a signal if the bluetooth connection gets broken between the watch and the phone. It makes a lot of sense. If you walk away and have left your phone behind you at least your watch will tell you fairly quickly that it’s lost its connection. Of course that’s no guarantee that you’ll find it or someone won’t have taken it, but it’s a start.

I’m not a gamer, that’s for sure

I just often don’t really get games. I can play for a while then I just get bored. I don’t think it’s the fault of the games of their designers, I just think that I don’t get gaming anymore. I used to (a very long time ago) like some games. Titles like Doom, Myst, Riven. I enjoyed those games, but in recent times I’ve found very few games that have taken my fancy.

However, that seems to be changing a little. Mostly I tried out music based mobile games, and some of these I got on well with, but not always. Now I’m starting to find a few apps / games that I am getting on with, so I’ll be posting my thoughts on these soon. I thought that someone might find that useful, or at least interesting.

So I’m trying out Apple Music

So Apple’s new ‘Spotify killer’ service is here. I’ve decided to try it out to see how good it is. So far, I’m not sure I particularly get what all the fuss is about. However, One thing I’m not sure I quite like is the fact that everything is now in iTunes. My library and everything else all in one place. I’m not sure I’m going for that quite.

We’ll see how it goes, but for now I’m actually preferring Spotify a lot.

You don’t see these so much any more, which is a shame

Interviews on cassette don’t come around very often these days. Which is a shame really as I think it’s a great format for an interview. You have to listen to it all in one go, or at least half in one go anyway. There’s no easy way to skip forward and that’s a good thing in my opinion.

No Beyond the Border this year sadly

DSCN1646

This is a picture I took one of the first times I went to beyond the border and it always reminds me of that lovely story telling festival. It isn’t on this year, which is a shame, although I do realise that it is more sustainable for it to be every other year. It makes sense. But I do miss it.

Hopefully I’ll get along to it next year. It’s a long time to wait though.

Pebble Time battery life

IMG_6857

This time around it took almost 5 days for my Pebble Time to get down to a 20% charge. I thought that wasn’t bad at all.

The most interesting thing was that not only did I get the nice alert to the fact that my battery was low, but also the watch face itself went red to constantly remind me.

I don’t know if all watch faces either do this, or are capable of doing this, but I think it’s a really useful feature.

Considering going to WOMAD this year

I think I’ve been going for about 10 years now, so in some ways it would be a shame not to go, but the line up isn’t inspiring me this year, which is a shame. I’m thinking about it, but not convinced as yet. I may just go for the day. I’ve done that a few times before and it’s ok. Not the same as being there for the weekend, but if the weather forecast is bad then it’s a viable alternative to a damp weekend.

I’ll keep thinking about it for now.

What started me thinking about it was listening to this box set from last year, which has got some excellent tracks on it.

The final book in the Enemy series is coming … in October

It’s a bit longer to wait than I’d hoped really but what can you do. I’d hoped it would be out in September, but it appears that the books is coming out on the 28th of October now. Which isn’t a big issue I guess. I just have about another 2 months to wait before it arrives.
