This was taken ages ago at Calbourne Mill on the Isle of Wight. They have lots of old farm machines there. Lots of them rusting away and weathering slowly. I like that texture of metal so this seemed a good picture to post second.

I had some high hopes for Recho, but as I was sort of spring cleaning apps from my iPhone the other day I noticed it and realised that I hadn’t used it in any way at all for months and month. So I had a look at the Recho web site and it’s still there and still going it seems. But every time I tried it even in London I couldn’t find very many sounds or stories or anything that had been left.
So I wondered if in fact it hadn’t been a big success in the UK? Maybe.
Is it worth giving it more of a go? I don’t know. Perhaps I should try again? Perhaps if I try it now I’ll find more stuff in London? I think it might be worth trying again, even for a few days, just to see if there’s more content and it might be fun.
I said that I’d try again to create a sound diary of sorts, so here’s a start. I doubt I’ll manage to do this on a daily basis, but maybe weekly will work. So this is my first attempt at a start for 2016. I may post more than one per week, maybe not. We’ll see.
This was recorded in a local park. Very quite although you can hear a plane going over and cars occasionally too. It felt quite though.
It was recorded with my new Zoom h2n.
I was looking at old photos as one does at the beginning of a new year, and I thought it might be nice to post some of these every now and then, possibly daily. Pictures that remind me of good times. Pictures that make me smile, make me happy. Stuff I think will be good to share and might make you smile too. So expect pictures regularly, or occasionally. It’ll depend you know.
I was researching around the Planet of the Apes stories to see what other things I’d missed, and I came across this spin off which was made after the original film, and after the TV series. It has a different view of the ape culture where the apes are more sophisticated and have a higher technology culture than portrayed in both the films and in the TV series. Apparently this is more in keeping with the original book, which I’m sad to say I’ve never read! I must put that right soon though.
So I’m planning on getting hold of this at some point soon, although possibly after I’ve watched the whole of the TV series.
Another piece from me exploring sonic manipulation of my Ukulele through apps.
So, here we are in 2016. I often think it is strange that we somehow cross this imaginary boundary into a new year, but today is a day very much like yesterday in many ways and for many people. It is just a day, and yet we like to make it special, a new beginning, a new start.
I’m not immune to this feeling, but I also see the continuity of it as well.
Having said all of that, a very happy new year to you, and I sincerely hope that the year brings all you wish for.
When I say new, of course I mean, there’s a plug in board. This is a first. Sadly on the Olegtron 4060 site there’s no word about how to buy one of these. Which is a shame as I’d love to get hold of one. So I’ve contacted them to find out and hopefully get hold of one for myself.
I’ve got the vinyl for this and now it’s on SoundCloud too. It’s a brilliant version. I love it!
