Back again

I realise that it’s been a while since I wrote anything here. It’s been a busy time what with one thing and another and it’s meant that I just haven’t had time to do much here. I’m hoping that will change from now on in. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to keep this up a bit more.

There’s a lot to say.

Big Finish: Survivors – Series 6

I’ve been waiting for this for some time now, and really looking forward to it. Today it is released, and I’ll almost certainly be buying it today.

In preparation for series 6 I decided to listen to all previous 5 series in order. That’s the Big Finish series of course, not the original television series or the remake. I thought it would be a good wait to get ready and have the timeline and stories straight for series 6. I’d forgotten just how good Big Finish have made survivors. They’ve done an amazing job on it. It’s totally consistent with the original and yet extends it seamlessly.

When I’ve absorbed series 6 I’ll let you know the verdict.

iCloud troubles

I love how Apple always tells you how much all their products and services make life easier. Well not always! Over the last couple of weeks I’ve had terrible trouble with iCloud. To the extent that it’s deleted all of my calendars, forced me to change passwords all over the place too.

Not much fun at all. Not in any way. Thanks so much Apple.

The fourth doctor to get a new companion!

I read that in the news on the big finish site a week or so ago and I’ve been pondering it ever since. When the fourth doctor came back in the form of excellent stories from big finish. Ever since the stories have been with original companions, the much missed Mary Tamm as Romana 1, Leela from the excellent Louise Jameson, and latterly Romana 2 with Lala Ward.

Now there’s to be a new, or rather a completely new companion. I still don’t know how I feel about that. I guess I’ll have to wait and see how it actually sounds in the end.

Colossus Sequencer and Synth, it’s been too long …

Colossus Synth
Colossus Synth
Colossus Sequencer
Colossus Sequencer

I actually got these two working a long time ago, and they do work quite well, if being a bit limited, but they’re fun and that’s fine.

However, I was thinking the other day that I should give it a go with some of the other little modular things I have. The colossus sequencer has a CV out so should work with some of my other bits and pieces.

There’s an experiment or two in there I think.

Starting to build an automated twitter synth with littleBits

For a long time I’ve been thinking about the idea of being able to create a synth in hardware which reacted to the virtual world, more specifically, to being tweeted at. To that that end I got myself a littleBits CloudBit, which works quite well, albeit it isn’t able to provide as much data as I’d like it to. However, that’s something that I need to overcome with a little bit of ingenuity rather than just complain about it.

So I’m starting to build the synth and get it to respond to external stimulus. The goal being to create a little system that reacts to a twitter message, creates a sequence based on that message, and somehow records that and uploads it somewhere. We’ll see. That’s the plan. Who knows how it’ll work out.
