Pretty impressed with Pebble

I have to say I’m impressed with Pebble’s latest announcement. It looks pretty good and I think it’s going to give the Apple Watch a good run for its money. Of course the announcement steals the Apple Watch Thunder, and judging by their astonishing Kickstarter performance in one day, people are loving what Pebble have come up with.

Something new coming from pebble

On the pebble web site they’ve got a big countdown timer. Something is coming. In less than 6 days. I’m intrigued. I’m so tempted to get another pebble smart watch, but I’m trying to be patient and see what the Apple Watch is all about until I decide. So will pebble’s news, whatever it is, tip my hand early? I guess it won’t be too long to find out.

I miss my pebble

I really do. I’m just sort of holding off until the Apple Watch arrives to see if that’s going to be good enough or better. I’m also interested in seeing what pebble can do to release a new updated version of pebble.

I like the idea of wearables and smartwatches, but so far they haven’t really done enough for me. I hope that’ll in change.

Regretting my decision over pebble

I’ve been without my pebble smartwatch for several weeks now. I decided to give it up after just not using it in ages. Of course, fairly quickly after giving it up Pebble announced version 2.0 of their firmware and some really cool new functionality. I can’t get it back, but now I really want a smartwatch again! And then, as if to give a final smack in the face, they bring out Pebble Steel.

So, I’m left wondering whether I should even consider getting another pebble, or wait around for the long rumoured iWatch from Apple. Probably the best thing to do is to wait right now, but that’s not as easy as it sounds either.

A reversal for pebble

So, I finally get the Pebble to talk to my old Android device, then this arrives. A new Smartwatch app for iOS that appears to give me just about everything I want with my Pebble for a mere £1.99. Not bad really.

So, where next for my Pebble?

I haven’t really used my Pebble smartwatch for about two months, possibly a bit less. Anyway, it’s just been sitting on a shelf for a while now and doing very little, which is a shame as it’s a lovely piece of technology. However, to be honest, I haven’t found a real use for it as yet sadly. I toyed with different faces for it, which was fun, and the notifications stuff was cool, but I never found it entirely compelling.

In many ways I’ve been struggling to find a real use for the technology, and it seems strange to try and find a use for something that’s meant to be useful straight away.

One thing I keep wondering is whether there’s a way to make the thing more useful in making music, but it doesn’t seem that this is being taken on board by developers really, or likely to be in the near future. My other main problem with it is that it isn’t particularly well supported by third party developers on iOS, whereas that’s not the case on Android. Now in part I expect that this is because Android is more open and developers are able to support lots of different integrations and features, such as Tasker support, which could make it very useful indeed.

But this doesn’t really work for me sadly as I don’t have an Android phone. However, I do have an cheap Android tablet that I’m starting to use more for bits and pieces, so my next step is to see what else I can use Android for and just how useful my Pebble will be connected to a tablet.

I’ll let you know how I get on.
