Things are going on all the time!, This category is about things I’ve been to or sometimes would have liked to have been to. Also, it’s about events I’m a part of or have had some hand in running.
Remembering Mick
Today there was a meet up in London to celebrate the life of the bassist Mick Karn who sadly died last month.
I would have really liked to have gone along, but it was sadly impossible. I’ve been thinking about him and his music for days, but I can’t seem to listen to anything by him. I don’t know why, but every time I see one of his tracks come up I skip it.
I’m considering having a serious Mick Karn listening session soon. I think it might be something I really need to do.
As you’re asking, yes, I did see the Human League last night
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this gig, but in the end it was good. I thought they’d only play newer stuff, but we got version of ‘Being Boiled’, and ‘Empire State Human’ too which was great. Nothing from Travelogue though which was a shame.
They played all the tracks you’d expect them too and a few that I didn’t expect like ‘The Lebanon’ and ‘Seconds’ which was great to hear live. It was quite a short gig though at only an hour a quarter.
I’m glad that I went to see them, it was a good show and I thought that they played well.
Looking forward
4 weeks to Christmas. That’s all, and after that, new year and then 2011. Where has this year gone?
People start asking you ‘Are you ready for Christmas?’ around now (and before), like it is some kind of thing you have to brace yourself against. Some kind of attack that’s on the way.
In some ways I can understand that kind of thinking. I already feel under pressure from constant Christmas advertising. I wish there was a little more joy in Christmas. A little more peace on earth and good will to all men.
The next 4 weeks will be busy no doubt, but I’m hoping to keep the ‘peace on earth, goodwill to all men’ in mind as far as I can.
100 Years
If my Grandfather were alive today he would be 100 years old today. I miss him. He was an amazing man. A tinkerer and maker. A wizard with electronics and always creating amazing little gadgets.
When I was little he made me a toy police car made out of old tin cans and bits of tape machines. It was amazing and I played with it for years.
So today I remember my wonderful Grandpa and think of all the good time we had together. Oh, and you might wonder what the picture is? Well, it was his pencil tin, where he kept technical drawing pencils and a set of compasses and the like. It reminds me of him.
Vintage Car Rally
Today was the London to Brighton Vintage Car Rally. I love watching these ancient vehicles on their way to Brighton. Every year I decide to make a real effort to watch as much of the rally as I can and every year something gets in the way. Usually staying in bed longer.
Today I managed to see more of it than I have for the last 3 years which was great, but even so I didn’t see as much as I’d like to. Maybe next year.
