Another great Dexys 7″, but this one I got because of the TV show it was made for. I used to really like that show, it was fun, and this was so cheap that I had to buy it just to remind me of it.
Month: July 2016
New (old) vinyl: Ian Dury – Hit me with your rhythm stick
A 1978 copy of this! I had to pick it up really, and it was really cheap too. A bargain, and a great song too.
New (old) vinyl: Tom Robinson – War Baby
This is one of my all time favourite Tom Robinson tracks. It really is excellent. I’d more or less forgotten the song, so when I stumbled over it I was really pleased. Now that I have the 7″ I thought I’d find a digital version too. Could I find it anywhere? No, not anywhere at all! What’s that about?
I tried to find it on CD and those are hard to come by too. I’ll keep searching.
New (old) vinyl: YMO – Firecracker / Technopolis
I’ve liked bits and pieces of YMO for years, but I’ve more enjoyed the work of the individual members of YMO more. So I thought I’d pick this up and see what it was like. Another good find at my local second hand record store.
New (old) vinyl: Trio – Da Da Da
As I have a VL-1 and as I’ve even gone as far as releasing my own VL-1 bot I just had to pick this up really. I didn’t have the vinyl version before this, but now I have!
New (old) vinyl: Eurythmics – Sexcrime (1984)
This was a brilliant single on a great album which should have been an amazing soundtrack to the film 1984. I still don’t really know why it wasn’t the soundtrack in the end. It would have worked really well I think.
Another great find from my local second hand record store.
New (old) vinyl: Dexys – Show me
This is a great single, one of my all time favs from Dexys and a nice 7″ too. A lovely old find from my local 2nd hand record store.
The Oxted Beer Festival
I haven’t gone every year, but I think I have for the last few, and it’s been ok. My big gripe with this beer festival is the cost. It’s more expensive than the Great British Beer Festival and is no way near as good! So why does it cost so much, and why has it gone up in price year after year? I don’t get it.
The beer wasn’t bad. They didn’t run out, which was a positive as they did run out last year. The music was ok. Friday night was better than Saturday. Saturday started well and got progressively worse as the evening went on.
So I’m not sure that this festival is going to be on my list if it keeps on getting more and more expensive for less and less value. It’s a shame, but if the organisers can’t make it work without putting up prices by 20-25% every year, then they’re doing something very wrong.
Doctor Who, Shadow of the Past
This was a recommendation from the Big Finish site and I thought I’d really l really wanted to hear it because it was read by Caroline Johns herself and I thought her Liz Shaw was a great companion.
This story was excellent. A bit more cerebral a story and I was glad for it. I have to say that I really enjoyed it and so much so that I think I’ll probably try a few more Liz Shaw stories.
Companion Chronicles, The Rocket Men
I got this on sale from Big Finish and really enjoyed it quite a lot. I’ve never really tried the first doctor stories so I’m really dipping my toe, but it’s good so far.
