I’ve been playing with Roli Blocks again, and this time, I’m actually getting into it. I’m starting to find it quite useful and creatively inspiring. It is early days as yet, but I’m getting some results.
So I thought I’d share some very small videos of what I’ve been doing.
I was actually really looking forward to seeing this. However, it has been a massive disappointment. It is actually one of the worst things I’ve seen, and most certainly the worst rendering of this story ever, and I include the Tom Cruise version, which was decidedly awful too.
I don’t really understand how they got it so wrong though. I mean, there’s a book. They read the book right? It doesn’t take much to get this right. They left out a load of stuff though. Stuff that was in the actual story, and they put in a load of stuff that wasn’t in the story. I’m not entirely sure why though.
It seems to me that this is a result of a very simple error that can be boiled down into a simple equation.
Original Story + Useless Additions – Cool stuff from the original = Crap Version
Sure, that’s probably an oversimplification, but basically it’s what happened, and it should have been totally avoidable.
As far as I can tell, no one (in their right mind) thought this was any good at all. I’d agree. However, if you’re interested in a far superior version, that is audio only, then you should try the version that Big Finish produced.
Now this is excellent. Really good and really enjoyable. I can thoroughly recommend it.
I do realise that this was quite a long time ago now, back in April in fact. But it is an event that I like to celebrate and, when I can, be a part of. This year I was again. However, in terms of how many things I got from my list, I wasn’t very successful at all. In fact, it was a bit of a bust to be honest.
Whilst that was a shame, I did manage to get a few bits and pieces, and I was pleased with that. I plan to go again in 2020, but I won’t be sure until I can see what’s on the list, and that won’t be for a few months yet.
Back in 2018 I decided that the simplest way to do Record Store day was to stay in a hotel around the corner, and I think that might be my best bet in 2020 if there’s enough on the list to actually tempt me.
This is the latest edition of Electronic Sound magazine. It comes with a copy of her version of the Doctor Who theme, presented on some very nice looking yellow vinyl. I’m not sure why it’s yellow, but it is.
Now I’ve played it. It’s pretty good. Great to hear that track again. Such a milestone in electronic music history. Such a hugely creative endeavor. Just so impressive.
I haven’t read the magazine as yet, but when I do I might post a few thoughts on their take on Delia. I’m not committing to it right now. We’ll see.
In some ways I just can’t believe that The The have been around for 40 years. It’s strange, it’s bizarre, but it’s true.
Their music has been an important part of my life for a long time. Perhaps not 40 years, but probably for most of that. The most important album from my perspective being ‘Soul Mining’. I still listen to parts of that quite regularly.
I’m looking forward to new stuff from The The and hopefully some re-releases as well.
